Come join our Hepatology/ Liver transplant team at Willis Knighton Health John C. McDonald Transplant Center. We are seeking a highly motivated Physician Assistant (PA) to fill this position. Duties include clinic and rounding in hospital with the collaborating Physician. The candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.
Responsibilities:
Partner with attending physicians, consulting specialists, referral sources, and facility staff to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care
Order and interpret lab and diagnostic tests, make preliminary diagnoses, and develop effective care plans
Provide education and resources to patients and their families on health issues, maintenance and liver disease
Long-term follow-up and management of immunosuppression for liver transplant patients
Manage patients with elevated liver biochemistries, fatty liver, viral hepatitis, genetic liver conditions and compensated/decompensated cirrhosis.

Education

Job Duties
Performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
Gathers and analyzes patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs.
Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing.
Sets up patient for testing according to accepted published standards.
Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments.
Documents routine observations including sleep stages, clinical events, changes in procedures, and significant events.
Performs routine mask fitting for positive airway pressure (PAP).
Scores sleep studies by applying professional accepted guidelines.
Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

The successful candidate for Division Chief of Hematology Oncology will have both clinical and research focuses to lead the medical oncology division. Leadership responsibilities will include coordinating and integrating the core mission areas with the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center and the Cancer Service Line, along with Cancer Center Director, across the breadth of the Northwest Louisiana region. Must have strong administrative, clinical, and teaching skills and a commitment to the broad mission of the Hematology/Oncology Division fostering outstanding clinical operations, program development, and coordination across practice locations. The physician appointed to the faculty of the LSU Health Shreveport Medical Center at the level matching their background and experience. The candidate must obtain a Louisiana medical license, privileges at local hospitals, and be credentialed with insurance entities.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
1. Be accountable for the physician and clinical operations, program development specific to medical oncology and oversee the medical oncology division.
2. Work in clinics in medical oncology with disease specific subspecialty emphasis four days/week. Will be expected to meet productivity and quality metrics adjusted for administrative duties.
3. Be committed to providing multi-disciplinary approach to provision of patient care.
4. Participation in call as required for patient care
5. Teaching fellow, residents, medical students as part of the hematology/oncology faculty.
6. Attending tumor boards as indicated as well as attend tumor boards for other specialties at MCI.
7. Performing outreach to community physicians to develop relationships that will generate referrals. Will work with business development liaison to create a referral strategy.
Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Must be board certified in medical oncology/hematology and have been practicing as a medical oncologist or hematologist for a minimum of 5-7 years. Previous administrative experience is required. Research experience with national funding preferred. Specific information regarding the ability to motivate and lead a division towards improved research productivity by mentorship and teamwork will be requested.

Laboratory Training/Continuing Education:
All employees are required to attend hospital orientation on the initial start date and then will proceed to the laboratory to undergo an extensive training program which covers all areas of the phlebotomy position. We provide a one-on-one approach to this process, which typically is completed within the first 1 to 2 months of hire.
Annual continuing education is provided by Willis-Knighton in an effort to maintain competency in phlebotomy skills, safety and general laboratory areas. This also provides employees CEUs to maintain certification requirements.
