Annual Base Salary for newly appointed CBPOs varies as follows:
GS-9: $61,111 - $124,443 per year
Note: A fully trained CBPO is eligible for up to $45,000 in overtime pay in addition to the starting salary.
Officers are eligible to select from an array of federal employment benefits that include health, dental and other insurance plans, generous annual and sick leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan.
LOCATION INCENTIVES: If you accept one of the duty locations listed below, you may be eligible to receive an additional 15%-25% of your salary each year for the first three (3) years of employment in addition to any overtime pay. Some locations may offer 25% for four (4) years.

Qualifications:
You qualify for the GS-9 grade level in one of the following ways: experience, education, or a combination of both.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level that includes:
Detaining suspected violators of federal, state, or local laws and/or arresting violators using the proper law enforcement methods.
Enforcing laws and regulations relating to importing, exporting, and/or international shipping.
Utilizing intelligence techniques and behavior analysis to identify potential threats.
Conducting interviews in a law enforcement capacity.
Education Substitution: A master's (or higher) degree or an LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited college or university; OR
Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of specialized experience AND successfully completed graduate-level education.

National Beef is looking for college students ready to explore a career in Food Safety and Technical Services Management to join our family for the summer of 2026 as a Food Safety Laboratory Technician Summer Intern.
Our internship program could jump-start your career in Food Safety. You will have the opportunity to work on rewarding projects to solve real business needs. You will be introduced to our company culture and work practices and learn about department functions and how our Laboratory integrates with our entire Operations Team.
This is an in-person, hands-on experience in a production facility. We will be placing one qualified intern in both our Liberal, Kansas, and Dodge City, Kansas facilities.
This is a paid internship. Housing allowance is included where required.
Program length: 10-12 weeks
Responsibilities

You will be working for an industry leader in beef processing!
This experience will provide you with a broad introduction to the National Beef's Laboratory process. You will work collaboratively with the Technical Services and Operations Teams and have networking opportunities with senior leadership in the facility.
As a Food Safety Laboratory Technician Intern, you will be responsible for preparing detailed reports for the Corporate Director of Technical Services and the facility Laboratory Manager summarizing key insights and experiences that you learned the previous week. The summer will end with a presentation to the Senior Technical Services Team and key Department heads to demonstrate what you have learned.
Qualifications
Qualified Candidates for the Food Safety Laboratory Technician Summer Internship position should possess the following:
Enrolled and have completed at least two years in an accredited college degree program focusing in one of the following fields of study:
Animal Science
Ag Business
Microbiology/Chemistry
Other related fields may be considered
Must be classified as a junior for the 2024-2025 academic year
Minimum GPA of 3.0 in core curriculum classes
Demonstrated leadership abilities and on-campus involvement
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to work independently and be self-directed on project work
Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products
Availability to work 40+ hours per week (some weekend work) on-site for the duration of the internship
Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
