Wilson Community College company history timeline

1958

The first classes began September 29, 1958 in the Charles L. Coon High School Annex.

Established in 1958 as Wilson Industrial Education Center, it is one of the system’s oldest institutions.

1960

As a young girl growing up in rural Northampton County in the 1960’s, Darlene Hall saw little of the world beyond the small town where she was raised by her grandparents.

1970

Grants totaling $1 million were received and Buildings J and D were occupied in 1970.

1971

In 1971, following the death of the Institute’s first president, Salvatore DelMastro, Doctor Ernest B. Parry was appointed president.

1982

He served until his retirement in July 1982 when Doctor Frank L. Eagles was appointed president.

1997

In 1997, the Salvatore DelMastro auditorium was completed, allowing the old auditorium to be converted to additional library facilities.

Since 1997, the College has experienced extraordinary student growth and continues to serve as a major source of education and training for the workforce in Wilson County.

1999

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Jessica started working at WCC in 1999, as Assistant Controller.

2003

The Frank L. Eagles Community Business Center addition to Building G was completed in 2003, adding much needed meeting rooms and classrooms to the College facilities.

2008

In 2008, the College celebrated its 50th year of serving the Wilson community, and opened a new student center.

2009

Wilson Early College Academy (WECA) was established August 5, 2009 on the campus of Wilson Community College.

In 2009, the College opened a new student center that showcased sustainable technologies.

2010

In 2010, the North Carolina Museum of the Coastal Plains, a regional history museum, opened in downtown Wilson.

2014

Leigh Goroski began her career at WCC in 2014, as the STARS Center Coordinator.

2016

Since joining the College in 2016, Susan has implemented many new systems and overseen growing technology in uncertain times.

Wilson Academy of Applied Technology (WAAT) was established in 2016 and is embedded on the Beddingfield High School campus and the Wilson Community College campus.

2019

In March 2019, the newly-renovated Lee Technology Center opened.

She has since served as Director of the STARS Center and then advanced to Director of Admissions and Student Success in 2019.

2020

“My wife graduated from WCC with a degree in nursing in 2020, and she always had wonderful things to say about the staff.

2021

In 2021, the Library was renovated and renamed as the A. Dwight Johnson Learning Resource Center.
