Under the direction of the Supervisor, Utility Aides and/or Manager of Production/Executive Chef the Utility Aide performs a variety of tasks related to the support of the operations of a professional kitchen. These tasks include: tray assembly, delivery, mechanical and/or hand washing of all Food Service plate ware, utensils, equipment and pots/pans. The Utility Aide is responsible for maintaining quality, cleanliness and ongoing sanitation of all Dish room and Food Service Production areas. Duties include but are not limited to: assembling trays for patient meal consumption, delivery of carts with assembled trays, retrieval of carts with soiled trays, cleaning of all plate ware, utensils, equipment, floors and pots/pans, mopping and sanitizing all food prep floor areas, cleaning checklists, temperature logs, maintenance reports and personal example. The Utility Aide is expected to deliver high quality services to patients, guests, co-workers, visitors and other customers of Baystate Health System.
Job Responsibilities:
1) Safe, sanitary food safety and equipment techniques. Use of gloves when setting up trays, following policies for effective use of mechanical cleaning of plates, pots and pans and silverware. Utilization of temp logs and organization of clean items so they do not come in contact with dirty items etc.
2) Able to perform all five main dish-room tasks. Tray assembly, cart delivery/retrieval (that includes knowledge of all units in hospital), tray removal, loading and unloading. Use of conveyor-type dish machine.
3) Accurately assembles patient meal trays that are in compliance with diet orders and food allergies. Practices safe food handling including maintaining appropriate food temperature, hand washing and personal hygiene. Utilizes First In, First Out rotation system.
4) Maintains temperature, QC and QA logs as directed by HACCP, JCAHO and DPH regulations, and Executive Chef or designee directives.
5) Cleans and sanitizes all equipment and floors at end of night or shift. Safe use of chemicals used in dish room. Follows Quality Assurance charts for accurate ratio of water to chemicals used for sanitizing where applicable.

Job Description:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Accurately assembles meal trays/meals, snacks, and nourishments per specified meal order or diet guidelines, adhering to portion control and quality food presentation standards.
* Loads and transports food carts, and delivers food to patient/resident room or designated area following established procedures.
* Cleans dishes, utensils, equipment, and work area following established sanitation procedures.
* Performs prep work such as washing and peeling of fruits and vegetables. Cuts and portions desserts.
* Delivers and stocks food supplies in designated areas according to established par levels, ensuring proper rotation of items and monitoring expiration dates.
* Uses necessary equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
* Serves our cafeteria customers in a friendly, efficient manner by performing cashier duties, restocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness.
* Restocks and maintains food and other supplies in an orderly manner, observing all food storage standards.
* Follows established food handling procedures and monitors temperature of food and equipment to ensure food safety and infection control practices are met.
* Maintains friendly customer interaction with patients and families.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma or GED preferred
* Must be able to read/write/understand English
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
* Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance
* Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing normal job duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
* Normally works in climate controlled environment, although may be exposed to heat and humidity from cooking equipment and refrigeration temperatures while in coolers and freezer
* Frequent standing with movement throughout work area • Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
* Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
* Occasional high noise level in work environment
* Possible exposure to hazardous materials

Shifts needed: Day 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Day/Evening 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM, every other weekend required!
As a Nutritional Aide at TaraVista in Devens, MA you will assist the Food Service Director with dietary functions as directed/instructed and in accordance with established dietary policies and procedures.
Work with the facility's dietitian as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
Follow ServSafe hygiene procedures at all times.
Assist in serving meals as necessary and on a timely basis.
Assist in daily or scheduled cleaning duties, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Clean work areas and refrigerators/freezers, etc.
Set up meals, food carts, unit pantries etc. as instructed.
Assist cook in preparing snacks, sandwiches, tossed salads, fruit salad.
Deliver/serve food to designated units. Stock unit pantries, nursing stations, water and fruit area.
Perform dish washing/cleaning procedures. Assure that utensil, etc., are readily available for next meal.
Successful Nutritional Aide candidates will have the following:
Education/Training: High school education preferred.
Basic reading and writing skills preferred.

Responsibilities
Position reports to the Manager or designee. Perform a variety of duties including but not limited to prepare short-order foods, made to order foods and Garde Manger needed for all departmental feeding responsibilities, monitor food produced for quality, temperature and flavor; identify any issues via tasting, portioning and visual appearance and make corrections; extend accurately recipes to ensure proper yields and maintain meal costs, etc. Keep production and temperature records up to date and report any problems to the Chef or Manager on duty. Qualifications
* Equal to completion of four years of high school or the equivalent is required.
* A minimum of one year food service related experience required.
* Experience with proper food safety/sanitation procedures preferred.
* Knowledge of HACCP principles.
* Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired.
* Compensation: Pay rate will be determined based on level of experience.
