Winding machine operator job description

Hours: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Temporary to Hire Opportunity

Experienced machine operator for an established company in Bethlehem, near Route 22.

This company will train a qualified candidate to perform all functions in the production area operating a variety of winding machines. The successful candidate will be hardworking, highly accountable, intelligent and possess a high level of attention to detail.

Duties may include :

• Operation of various industrial machines (rewinder, slitter, printed tape or die cutter)
• Read job information to determine job specifications and reconfigure equipment as needed
• Packaging, crating, labeling and bundling
• Prepare product for shipment
• Assist with inventory management
• Record and report all finished production. Complete and process all related documentation via computer or hand written
• Keep equipment and work areas clean to ensure a safe, productive operation
• Complete rework activities to reduce or eliminate material losses

Skills/Abilities:

• Attention and complete adherence to quality and safety standards
• High School Level Math, including fractions and decimals
• High School Level Literacy
• Good visual acuity for color consistency
• Use tape measure, micrometer and Vernier calipers
• Manual dexterity
• Ability to use basic hand tools
• Mechanical ability a plus
• Ability to lift 50lbs regularly
• Ability to remain on feet for long periods
• Basic computer skills helpful
• Walking, squatting, crouching, turning, twisting, stretching, grabbing, pulling, pushing and bending

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Fabricate, position and form structural metal/fiberglass products.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Use and conduct proper care of PPE.
• Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, saws, and presses, to cut, bend, straighten, and form metal/fiberglass plates, sheets and structural shapes according to blueprints and specifications.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, engineering specifications, and shop orders to determine machine setup, production methods, and sequence of operation.
• Selects, positions, and secures dies, blades, cutters, and fixtures onto machine, using rule, square, shims, templates, hand tools, and built-in gauges.
• Starts machine and observes machine operation to reposition work piece, change dies, or adjust machine settings for multiple or successive passes.
• Inspects or measures work, using rule, gauges, and templates.
• Lifts work piece manually or with hoist, and positions and secures it on machine table in drilling jig or holding fixture.
• Moves machine controls to feed tools into work piece, and engages automatic feed or manually holds.
• Observes machine operation, and verifies conformance of work piece to specifications, using fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
• Changes worn cutting tools, using wrenches.
• Moves controls to adjust cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cut.
• Support the Altec Production System (APS).
• Follow established safety, environmental and quality policies, procedures and practices.
• Maintain work area and shop tools/equipment.
• Maintain daily time records.
• Other job duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

**Machine Operator experience is preferred**

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Vocational training in lieu of experience would be considered
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend required.
• Basic computer usage knowledge, reading of various measuring tools, mathematics, including fractions required.
• Ability to use measuring equipment and read blue prints and schematics required.

• General knowledge of at least one of the following required.
o Mechanical
o Manufacturing / Production processes

Equipment: Electric mixer to mix resin, winding machinery, overhead crane, boom oven, computer, large belt sander, drill press, hydraulic motor with control valves.

OTHER POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
• Ability to obtain forklift certification if required.
• Keep a clean work area (5S).
• Assist co-workers as needed.
• May participate in RCI events.
• May be required to learn Altec programs and/or systems.
• Shift work may be required.
