    The Medical Advocate (MA) position involves working with survivors of domestic violence. The MA duties include medical advocacy, supportive services, and case management to individuals, who are screened through the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) assessment tool. WINGS Program, Inc. promotes self-reliance through an empathic and caring atmosphere. Key Responsibilities: * Assess each patient's strengths and needs upon entry to the pilot TBI program. Identify the level of care for medical/dental, social, education, and required support. * Provides direct patient services in the form of bedsides, crisis intervention, emotional support, and conflict resolution in accordance with the TBI response toolkit. * Provide direct services to clients with TBI diagnosis including but not limited to case management and comprehensive support. * Develop, monitor, and revise service plans which include goals and objectives identified by client. * Assist clients in application and follow up of mainstream benefits, location of sustainable long- term housing, and provide referrals/.resources. * Attend Agency and Hospital administrative meetings and collaborate with internal and external staff and community partners. * Immediately report child abuse to the Department of Children and Family Services as mandated by law and in accordance with agency procedures. * Adhere to policy and procedures related to IPV-Induced TBI assessment/best practice. * Provide services in accordance with the Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals code of ethics. * Respond to security concerns appropriately, documenting observations and actions taken. * Complete and maintain case notes, and document service statistics. * Ensure administrative responsibilities and reporting are completed in accordance with agency policy. * Request donations and acquire items needed for clients. * Attend community resource meetings and act as liaison to create resource manual. * Other duties as assigned. Requirements * Bachelor's degree in social service, a closely related field, or equivalent job experience required. * Minimum of 2 years of experience in social services, case management, and informal counseling required. * 40 hour domestic violence training and CPR & First Aid Certification preferred. * Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional (ICDVP) Certification preferred. * Spanish Bilingual preferred. * Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. * Strong working knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office Suite along with excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills. * Possess the ability to work efficiently and independently and be highly organized with attention to detail along with strong project management, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. * Must demonstrate flexibility and commitment to teamwork. * Skilled in handling sensitive issues, responding appropriately in emergency situations and maintaining professional boundaries. * Transportation - Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and automobile insurance. * Ability to handle physical requirements to accomplish daily responsibilities, including but not limited to lifting to 35 pounds using both hands/arms on a regular basis, climbing stairs, hear and/or see fire and intruder alarms, and occasionally standing for extended periods. Objective: To maintain the smooth operation of the Safe House and Crisis Line, and support clients as needed. Key Responsibilities: * Operate the Crisis Line by providing crisis intervention, counseling, education, safety planning, and referrals to callers. * Conduct and approve intake and eligibility evaluations to determine guest's needs and appropriateness for services at the Safe House. * Interact with guests in the community areas of the house and role model social skills, conflict resolution, parenting and other skills of daily living (this may include time management, self-care, conflict and stress management, parenting, budgeting and others). * Supervise and coordinate activities related to house policies and chores. * Identify guest needs and communicate these needs to the responsible staff member to secure donations and services. * Ensure building is safe and secure, reporting any concerns to appropriate personnel. * Maintain timely, accurate records including up-to-date client files, statistics report, and census. * Update daily roster and shift reports. * Assist with meals and mealtime during the shift. * Assist in processing and storing donations as requested. * Attend and participate in supervision, weekly group meetings, and other meetings as required. * Conduct, attend, and participate in appropriate training and education. * Immediately report child abuse to Department of Children and Family Services as mandated by law and in accordance with agency procedures. * Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.     2 Positions Mon-Fri w/occ Sat 2 Shifts 3pm - 12am or 6p - 3am Reports to: Deputy Director Mayor's Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention Class Code: 1613 Grade: 603 FLSA: Non-Exempt Hourly Wage: $ 23.32 NATURE OF WORK The Medical Response Advocate position is a full-time position that is responsible for implementing the agency's hospital-based Medical Response Advocacy Project, working on behalf of survivors of intimate partner violence in collaboration with interdisciplinary staff at UW SwedishAmerican Hospital. This role involves providing on-scene trauma-informed support, advocacy, information, and referrals to survivors seeking treatment within the Emergency Room while maintaining strict confidentiality standards. This position includes working nights and weekends. Additionally, the Medical Response Advocate provides information and training on the intersection of intimate partner violence, specifically strangulation, and health care to healthcare providers and emergency medical technicians. They serve on various community committees and task forces representing the healthcare needs of intimate partner violence survivors. GRANT FUNDING ADVISEMENT: This position is 100% funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). DCEO grant funding for the current project will end on December 31, 2026. Acceptance of this position shall not be construed as a guarantee of employment beyond the grant-funded period. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES The Medical Response Advocate dedicates their time to being the primary advocate and support for survivors of intimate partner violence at the UW Health Emergency Department. They facilitate collaboration between healthcare staff, team members, and outside agencies, identifying and addressing the educational needs of medical personnel regarding intimate partner violence through in-service training and consultation. Focusing on crisis intervention, they conduct intake and assessment to determine clients' needs and eligibility for services, triage immediate needs, provide crisis responses, make appropriate referrals, and ensure a warm handoff to additional mid- and long-term support services. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (These essential duties are only illustrative.): Facilitate collaboration between health care staff, Family Peace Center staff, project team members, and outside agencies serving survivors of intimate partner violence. Ascertain intimate partner violence education needs of medical personnel and coordinate and provide in-service training and consultation to healthcare providers on intimate partner violence issues to meet the identified needs. Accept referrals from health care staff. Interview patients to determine the appropriate services to be initiated and to obtain patients' consent to receive project services, direct services, and referrals. Provide support, options, safety planning, referrals, and advocacy to survivors of intimate partner violence as requested, in alignment with the Family Peace Center's philosophy. Ensure all interactions, both within and outside the agency, affirm the value of diversity and respect individuals' gender, class, race, ethnicity, ability, religion/spirituality, cultural identity, immigrant or refugee status, and sexual orientation. Adhere to the Family Peace Center's confidentiality and information-sharing process. Uphold trauma-informed and survivor-driven principles and policies of the Family Peace Center. Maintain current, thorough knowledge of issues about intimate partner violence, including their intersections with other forms of oppression and the need for empowerment-based survivor-centered advocacy. Develop and distribute intimate partner violence materials to patients and healthcare providers. Maintain and submit statistical information, reports, records of contact, and activities. Assist as needed with accomplishing the goals and objectives of the Medical Advocacy Response Project via other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Work under the overall supervision of the Deputy Director of The Mayor's Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention general and day-to-day supervision and direction of the Project Manager of the grant, who reviews work for effectiveness, timeliness, and overall results achieved. SUPERVISION EXERCISED This position does not require supervisory duties.     The Counselor II is a valuable member of our Crisis Care/Respite Program. Since 1983, the Crisis Care Program has provided a 24/7 crisis line and an 8-bed, voluntary, inpatient, 24/7 respite stabilization program for clients in crisis. Since 2018, the Crisis Care Program has also provided services to Lake County residents who call 988 and is currently one of six locations in the state to do so. To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who can: * Provide crisis/respite intervention services to clients via the crisis hotline, in-person, and clients in the inpatient residential unit. * Evaluate and assess clients for level of care. * Prepare and implement treatment plans with clients. * Provide therapeutic and supportive services to clients, including individual, group, and case management. * Responsible for unit coverage and emergency telephone interventions. Scheduled Hours: from 16 to 24 hours a week * Variety of shifts to choose from: * (8-4:30pm), (4pm-12:30am) or (12:00am-8:30am) * Rotating weekends and some on-call responsibilities. * $5.00 per hour shift differential for working hours deemed eligible for shift and weekend premium. Scheduled Hours: As needed * Overnight and evening preferred. 1st shift is available if needed. * This position will require some on-call rotation in which staff person is backup coverage for shifts during the week they are on call. * Flex employees must work a minimum of 80 hours per calendar year; and be available to work one (1) fixed or floating holiday each year, if needed. * Provides education and direction to clients, family members and/or significant others. * Provides direct services to clients including individual and group treatment. * Takes responsibility for training in and documenting clinical chart requirements to meet program and state standards. * Provide an atmosphere of customer service in assuring that clients are treated in a friendly and respectful manner. * Responds to inquiries, gives appropriate information and referrals, and documents, if necessary. * Conducts crisis intervention/evaluation/referral to persons in the community or who present themselves at the program. Secures hospitalization, if necessary. * Performs initial evaluations and assessments of potential clients regarding their appropriateness for participation in the program. * Serves food to clients in residential programs. * Maintains an awareness of and professional involvement/collaboration with community resources. * Assists in facilitating transportation of clients. * Provides crisis intervention to stabilize clients and refer them to the most appropriate provider of outpatient or inpatient care. * Refers emergency clients to follow-up services working in conjunction with the case coordinators. * Responds to crisis assessments in person and by phone. Reports client progress, behavior problems, or need for medication evaluation to program supervisors/physicians/psychiatrists regularly. * Participates in staff meetings, in-service training, and seminars to facilitate professional growth and maintain licensure if required. * Conducts crisis intervention/evaluation/referral to persons who present themselves at the program. * Performs initial evaluations and assessments of potential clients regarding their appropriateness for participation in the program. Provides ongoing assessment of client's progress/growth. * Provides coverage of the unit/site, ensuring 24-hour coverage is maintained at all times. * In outpatient programs, provides weekend or evening coverage as required. * Bachelor's degree in a related field, or * Bachelor's in any field and two (2) years' experience, or * High School diploma or GED and five (5) years' experience * Must possess a valid driver's license.
