Winning Wheels company history timeline
Their first goal was to obtain approval as a non-profit corporation with the State of Illinois, which was granted during March 1971.
They reached a second goal of selling 1,000 memberships on February 27, 1972.
The organization purchased 12 acres in the City of Prophetstown on June 10, 1973.
Good news came on May 18, 1974 when they were notified that the Illinois Hospital Advisory Council had passed a resolution awarding them a grant of $381,356 and a government guaranteed loan in the amount of $469,774.
After their approval, construction bids were opened in November, 1976, at which time the Board of Directors learned of the devastating effect of inflation on building costs.
Construction began May 17, 1978.
S.T.R.I.V.E. is home to residents who are working toward an increasingly independent lifestyle with access to a kitchen and central living room area was opened in 1991.
