The Repair Technician performs and supervises the cleaning, assembly, repair and maintenance of all equipment provided by Memorial Home Services of CI, this includes home medical equipment, respiratory and all other home medical equipment and maintaining all appropriate documentation. This service or repair could be for equipment to be delivered in compliance with specific medical requirements, modifications to existing customer equipment, repair of damaged or malfunctioning customer equipment or routine service required by the manufacturer. This position also is required to be a backup for our oxygen trans-filler.
Qualifications
Education:
Education equivalent to graduation from high school is required.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
Must possess a valid IL driver's license and be deemed as an acceptable driver in accordance with the MHS Fleet Safety Policy (five year MVR will be required).
Experience:
One or more years of experience in HME/healthcare delivery, warehouse, oxygen, electrical maintenance and repair or related experience preferred but not required.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Possess basic mathematics and personal computer skills, with the ability to retrieve and enter limited amounts of data are required.
Must be detailed oriented, organized, focused and personable.
Ability to use a variety of medical testing equipment.
Demonstrates the ability to push and pull up to 75 pounds.
Responsibilities
Troubleshooting - Respiratory
Diagnose, repair, and/or modify equipment as needed in order to assure proper functioning of respiratory equipment. This may be done in the shop or in the field.
Be skilled in troubleshooting respiratory equipment to determine type of service or parts necessary for repair. Provide excellent listening and communication skills to customers in troubleshooting service requests via telephone or in person.
In case of equipment failure or breakdown, converse with the operator of equipment to ascertain if this mechanical or user error. That may prevent a tech to go out and exchange or repair equipment.
Equipment Assembly
Assemble any new equipment coming in to make sure it is patient ready for patient delivery/pick up.
Repair Respiratory Equipment
Provide service or repair for:
Equipment to be delivered in compliance with specific medical requirements.
Repair of damaged or malfunctioning customer equipment.
Routine service required by the manufacturer.
Be able to prepare and effectively communicate repair quotes.
Be able to repair all types of medical equipment provided, including:
Rental DME.
Respiratory DME in a timely manner.
Maintenance - All Medical Equipment
Inspect incoming rentals for hours used, maintenance needed and repairs required. Inspect and process returns per company and infection control guidelines.
Design and implement test procedures for outgoing and incoming equipment and, as needed, calibrate O2 testing equipment.
Follow established maintenance schedule for each piece of rental equipment per specific equipment procedure requirements (concentrators, cylinders) and per manufacturer's recommendations. Maintain equipment in good working order and appearance and verify equipment is working properly.
Monitor and report abnormal wear and tear to equipment that may be caused by customer misuse or abuse.
Replace disposables as needed.
When complex repairs are needed, ensure repairs are scheduled and completed.
Perform a thorough check on wheelchairs, beds, etc., in house and in the field and verify equipment is working properly.
Provide complete thorough documentation on all equipment purchased or rental.
Cleaning and Sterilizing - All Medical Equipment
Clean and sterilize equipment and make sure equipment ready for repair and maintenance
Equipment is to be logged in the system as cleaned and if repaired.
A written log of serial numbers is also documented of cleaned equipment for verification purposes
This responsibility is to be rotated between all Repair Technicians
Have good organizational skills and detailed oriented
Crushes boxes when needed
Checks eye wash station weekly
Abides by all OSHA guidelines
Make sure all cleaning solutions and chemicals are available for cleaning and sterilizing purposes
Quality Improvement
Supervise equipment delivered to maintain quality control.
Verify complete shipments to customers.
Verify equipment sale/rent to be in good working order before delivery.
Thorough documentation on all rental equipment, including:
Service date.

Create, submit, and maintain proper paperwork for warranty work.

Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of a recognized Surgical Technologist program, or in the last semester of an approved program is required.
National certification and CPR certification are required within 6 months of graduation from recognized program, or within 6 months start date of employment.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
Maintains current CPR certification

Be able to repair all types of medical equipment provided, including:

Maintenance - All Medical Equipment
Inspect incoming rentals for hours used, maintenance needed and repairs required. Inspect and process returns per company and infection control guidelines.
Design and implement test procedures for outgoing and incoming equipment and, as needed, calibrate O2 testing equipment.
Follow established maintenance schedule for each piece of rental equipment per specific equipment procedure requirements (concentrators, cylinders) and per manufacturer's recommendations. Maintain equipment in good working order and appearance and verify equipment is working properly.
Monitor and report abnormal wear and tear to equipment that may be caused by customer misuse or abuse.
Replace disposables as needed.
When complex repairs are needed, ensure repairs are scheduled and completed.
Perform a thorough check on wheelchairs, beds, etc., in house and in the field and verify equipment is working properly.
Provide complete thorough documentation on all equipment purchased or rental.
Cleaning and Sterilizing - All Medical Equipment
Clean and sterilize equipment and make sure equipment ready for repair and maintenance
Equipment is to be logged in the system as cleaned and if repaired.
A written log of serial numbers is also documented of cleaned equipment for verification purposes
This responsibility is to be rotated between all Repair Technicians

Quality Improvement
Supervise equipment delivered to maintain quality control.

Service date.

Warranty information
Parts & Equipment Inventory
Maintain an adequate and appropriate supply of repair parts.

Place all items received for stock into their appropriate locations on a daily basis.
Perform accurate physical inventory daily on parts and serialized equipment
Shipping and Receiving
Possess skill in efficient preparation of products for shipping on a daily basis.
Receive all items shipped on a daily basis. Verify accuracy of shipment, notify appropriate parties of shipments received, and record properly for inventory purposes. New equipment needs to be unpacked, noted for inventory and stocked quickly.
Notify vendor and purchasing of damage or shortage immediately and follow up.
Manuals, Documentation and Knowledge.
Maintain up-to-date files of manufacturer's repair and maintenance manuals on the P Drive of all HME equipment owned by the company (as available) and other related documentation.
Have familiarity with service requirements of each piece of equipment owned by this company.
Maintain well-organized and current documentation for all maintenance and repair to DME and respiratory related equipment, including equipment tracking and maintenance logs.
Create, submit, and maintain proper paperwork for warranty work.
When appropriate, be able to create or process proper billing materials.
Trans-filling Back up Required
Participates in, and successfully completes, all required onsite, offsite, and on-the-job training to ensure the safe and compliant execution of all job duties. Keeps abreast of procedural and safety changes as new equipment or regulatory guidelines are introduced.
Trans-fills bulk liquid oxygen into high pressure cylinders. Adheres to safety and security procedures at each step.

Graduate of a recognized Surgical Technologist program, or in the last semester of an approved program is required.
