TITLE: Mammography Technologist

Position Summary: The Women First Mammography Technologist is responsible for detecting breast tissue abnormalities by completing mammographic imaging studies and presenting them for diagnosis. The technologist is also responsible for conducting dexagram studies. There is a $5,000 sign on bonus included with this position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Greets patients by confirming patient identification; reviewing imaging request; checking for special instructions; confirming anticipated service with patients.
Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of imaging procedures; explaining equipment; answering questions.
Conducts mammography study by positioning, instructing patient, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.
Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; observing mammogram results; determining necessary adjustments for optimum results; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation.
Keeps supplies and inventorying stocked
Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing MQSA standards and procedures.
Obtains and documents pertinent patient data and completing electronic medical record charting.
Maintains professional licensures.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
Must have knowledge and use of mammography and dexagram equipment.
Must have knowledge and use of operation of standard office equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, team members, and physicians.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling protected patient information.
Work requires continual attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
Keyboard experience required.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
Practice universal precautions related to infection control and environmental safety.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
Required to stand for long periods of time.
Heavy lifting may be required when assisting patients onto and off of the dexagram exam table.

Education and Experience
Diploma from an accredited X-ray program.
State of Kentucky license for X-ray and Mammography.
License from ARRT and MQSA.
Two to Three years of experience preferred.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities.

Reviews all cytology results in the special procedure result notification EMR inbox and performs all job duties associated with counseling patients who have abnormal Pap Smear results.
Coordinates and implements the patient's plan of care in collaboration with the health care team for the surgery or procedure that has been ordered for the patient.
Performs all urodynamic procedures and post-operative voiding trials as ordered by the physician and document findings in EMR.
Schedules all procedures and surgeries to be performed in the Surgery Suite 31.
Mails out all pre-operative instructions and educational materials including appointment date and time prior to the patient appointment and update the patient chart and the abnormal Pap Smear Flow Sheet.
Performs all job duties associated with triage and counseling to the patient, family/or significant others according to protocol and practice guidelines.
Prior to the surgery/procedure being performed, performs laboratory procedures (i.e., urine pregnancy test, urine multistix, wound and urine cultures, specimen collection, ect.) using principles of aseptic techniques, standard precautions, and infection control guidelines.
Sets up surgery/procedure exam room for procedures and prepares devices and surgical instruments using proper sterile technique.
Prepares and rooms the patient for surgery/procedure by obtaining vital signs and documents/updates pertinent health information (i.e., chief complaint, allergies, medications) in the patient's EMR.
Administers medications by mouth, by injection and by installation, under the physician's orders including antibiotics, narcotic pain medications analgesics
Assists the physicians with all surgeries and procedures performed in Surgery Suite 31.
Provides basic to complex patient education and post-operative instructions to the patient and schedules post-operative appointment according to physician guidelines.
Washes, disinfects, wraps, and sterilizes all surgical instruments using aseptic technique, standard precautions, and infection control guidelines.
Processes requisitions for all lab, pap smear and biopsy specimens
Organizes and prepares exam rooms and work areas including cleaning and stocking exam rooms and ordering supplies.
Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinical equipment using appropriate technique when cleaning, sterilizing, and caring for instruments and other equipment.
Contacts all post-operative patients via telephone call or FMH message to the patient and document post-operative status.
Reviews lab and pathology results with the patient, send results and documents follow up care plan in EMR for physician sign off and updates appropriate tracking system.
Assures compliance with HIPPA, OSHA & CLIA regulations.
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
5- 7 years' experience working in an obstetric and gynecology clinic or private office preferred.
Knowledge of basic and skilled nursing principles, medical terminology, and protocols. Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality. Proper knowledge of medical chart documentation.
Ability to work effectively with physicians, team members and other staff. Ability to appropriately interact with patients, families, staff, and others. Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.
