Eight hour full-time Assistant Custodian Position. Hours are 3:30pm-12:00am, beginning wage $21.99 per hour, 261 day contract, tested position. Benefits available. Heavy lifting is involved. Must be able to lift 80 pounds. Must be willing to work additional hours as needed. Position is part of the OAPSE Union Local #544. JOB GOAL: To support the District's instructional program by ensuring that the building is clean and that the building operates as efficiently and economically as possible. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent Shall be in good physical condition with no past history of physical limitations precluding heavy lifting and lifting 80 pounds. Good health, high moral character, good attendance record. Must be willing to obtain a valid Ohio Boiler Operators License (low pressure) Experience in all maintenance skills including, but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, heating systems (hot water, steam, forced air), strong ability to operate equipment, and carpentry Ability to supervise employees and utilize the resources available Must score a minimum of 70% on Assistant Custodian exam KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must possess experience in general cleaning and sanitation. Experience in all maintenance skills including, but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, heating systems (hot water, steam, forced air), strong ability to operate equipment, and carpentry. Be diplomatic and tactful in relation to co-workers, students, and the general public. Possess the ability to follow oral and written instructions. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: The individual in this assignment must discharge all delegated responsibilities in a manner which is consistently in accord with the policies adopted by the Board of Education. Work related to the performance responsibilities listed below may be assigned by his/her supervisor(s) and the appointing authority or its designee. The individual must adhere to the assigned work schedule. It shall include, but not be limited to those tasks listed below. Essential Functions: Willingness to perform any or all maintenance duties. Promote good safety procedures. The duties and responsibilities of the assistant custodian shall be set up by the building principal and the head custodian in order to maintain high standards of efficiency, safety and health in the building. These duties are to be put on a time schedule and submitted to the building principal. The major responsibilities of the assistant or night custodian are security and general cleaning. These duties will include (but are not limited to the following): Seeing that all windows, outside doors, and gates are properly closed and locked at night. Having the building ready for scheduled activities. Assist in conserving supplies. Giving special attention to the practice of economy and conservation in the use of electricity and fuel. Keeping the head custodian informed on needed supplies and equipment. Being vigilant at all times; promptly reporting to the principal any defacement, damage, or injury done to school property, together with the name of the offender, if known. Caring for the school grounds, buildings, fences, walks, shrubbery and shade trees on or about the school premises; mowing the grass and weeds in the school yards and grounds adjoining the street; keeping the lawns in good condition; policing grounds as needed and appropriate. Keeping the buildings and premises clean; sweeping and cleansing daily the classrooms, hallways, offices, rest rooms, toilets and fixtures, fumigating or disinfecting them whenever and in whatever manner directed; keeping all lavatories clean and provided with a sufficient supply of paper towels. Dusting all furniture, woodwork, radiators, hand rails, banisters, blinds, etc., as often as it appears necessary, washing or dry cleaning all blackboards and chalk trays as needed. Make minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, and mechanical fixtures and equipment. Assist head custodian in thorough cleaning of building during Christmas holidays, spring, and summer vacations. Cooperating with administrators, teachers, pupils, and Community in developing a “good housekeeping” attitude on everybody's part. During the winter season, keep the steps and all walks about the premises free of ice and snow, sprinkle rock salt, ashes or sand on the sidewalks and steps when they are slippery; keeping the same swept at all times. Care and custody of the flag(s). When necessary, receive and sign for all supplies and/or deliveries; processing the paperwork through regular school procedures. All custodians are under the direct supervision of the building principal with assistant custodians also responsible to the head custodian. Performing such other duties as may properly come within said position or be requested by the Superintendent, Director of Facilities & Grounds, Building Principal, or Head Custodian. Other Duties and Responsibilities: May include, but not be limited to those tasks listed below: 1. Supervise student help as needed. WORKING CONDITIONS: The Board of Education and administration will provide a safe and healthful work environment pursuant to applicable state and federal regulations.
