Leidos woodworking bench carpenter job description
This is a temporary, seasonal position from October through December 2022. This position may be filled by a Leidos' teaming partner.
Leidos is seeking a temporary Woodworker in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). This position will perform crate building and the blocking and bracing of cargo in preparation for its shipment to Antarctica. Tasking is based on an employee's prior work experience and USAP schedule requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Perform crate building, blocking, and bracing utilizing a variety of materials and tools.
+ Track material usage and update departmental inventory records.
+ Coordinate materials and support from other departments.
+ Perform tasks requiring repeated heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, hauling, standing, walking, kneeling, stooping and squatting.
+ Provide accurate and thorough documentation of hours worked, tasking performed, materials used, and processes involved.
+ Advise immediate Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirements.
+ Accomplish tasking utilizing design drawings and specifications.
+ Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), suggest revisions as needed.
+ Perform tasking outdoors in environmentally challenging conditions including wind, rain, and extreme cold weather.
+ Routinely utilize independent judgment and discretion to identify potential issues and solve problems.
+ Proactively identify any unsafe conditions, hazards, or Code violations and communicate them effectively.
+ Work directly with other departments to plan and complete tasking.
+ Comply with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements.
+ Participate in Work Center Safety Program and ASC safety objectives.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
+ Minimum four years of documented experience in the woodworking or carpentry trade, including blocking, bracing, rough framing, and finish carpentry.
+ Ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications, and diagrams.
+ Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
+ Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors and in the elements.
+ High School Diploma or the equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in construction and/or maintenance of commercial and/or industrial facilities.
This job position and contract may fall under the Service Contract Act (SCA), a federal law which provides for U.S. Department of Labor prescribed minimum prevailing rate of pay and certain fringe benefit levels.
