While traditional HR and payroll providers automate basic HR processes such as payroll and benefits administration, Paylocity goes further by developing tools that HR and businesses need to compete for talent and deliver against the expectations of the modern workforce. Help Paylocity enhance communication and enable employees to connect, collaborate, and create from anywhere with a position in Product & Technology! Want to develop the strategies and principles needed to deliver compelling software? Take your career to the next level at one of G2's Top 100 Software Companies. Explore our Product & Technology positions to see where you fit! About the Team Position Management sits at the heart of Paylocity's People Data ecosystem. We provide the source of truth for company and employee positions, making it simple and reliable for clients and internal product teams to create, manage, and use position data. Our platform powers experiences across the HCM suite, and we also offer a full-featured application that HR teams use directly to model their organization, plan changes, and keep their data clean and consistent. We are a product platform team that cares about reliable partnerships with the product teams that consume our data. Position Overview This role manages a team of software engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions that support business objectives. You will be responsible for the technical execution, operational efficiency, and health of your team's engineering output, ensuring high-quality, scalable software delivery. You will foster a high-performing, collaborative team environment, mentor engineers, and drive continuous improvements in both product and process. This role requires strong leadership, a hands-on approach to problem-solving, and a focus on delivering impactful solutions. Primary Responsibilities We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Position Management team and own the Position Management product area. In this role, you will: Turn the broader People Data and company strategy into a clear set of priorities and focus for your team, and keep that focus visible week to week. Own the product area end-to-end, especially when issues arise, and help the team respond and learn in a calm and accountable way. Understand the technical landscape well enough to ask good questions, challenge tradeoffs, and support your engineers in making sound decisions, even if you are not writing code every day. Ensure the team uses company standards and best practices, including paved roads, observability, and quality practices, so that our platform is dependable for others. Use data from quality, monitoring, and usage to guide decisions, not just intuition, and help the team improve its own metrics over time. Run a predictable delivery process using PDLC and agile practices, making sure work is well shaped, progress is visible, and outcomes are owned. Actively collaborate with product, design, and peer teams, handling feedback with a growth mindset and working for shared success, not just local optimization. Proactively manage engagement and performance on the team, giving clear feedback, recognizing growth, and addressing gaps early Lead and manage an engineering team, ensuring alignment with product and business goals. Manage team capacity and resource planning, ensuring the right talent is allocated to meet project goals. Stay up to date on industry trends and emerging technologies, applying relevant innovations to enhance team effectiveness. Education and Experience 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with 1+ years in a management role. Have prior experience leading an engineering team that owns a critical service, platform, or data domain, ideally with integrations across multiple products. Be comfortable operating in a mix of product and platform work, balancing client-facing needs with platform stability and long term maintainablity. Enjoy coaching engineers, setting clear expectations, and creating an environment where people feel safe to raise issues and move quickly without cutting corners. Think in systems: how changes ripple through other teams, how to design for scale and reliability, and how to make observability and quality in from the start. Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical partners, and stay calm and solution focused when things go wrong. What success looks like in this role The Position Management team has a clear, realistic roadmap that is tied to the People Data and company strategy, and the team reliably delivers on it. Position data is trusted across the organization, with fewer surprises in downstream systems and strong alignment with peer teams that consume our data. The team has healthy engineering practices around testing, monitoring, and incident response, with issues understood and addressed rather than repeated. Planned vs unplanned work is balanced, and the team can invest in both new capabilities and foundational improvements without constant firefighting. Engineers on the team are growing in ownership and impact, and potential future leaders are being identified and developed. Stakeholders know what to expect from Position Management, feel informed, and see the team as a dependable partner for building new experiences. Physical requirements Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day. Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously. Paylocity is an equal-opportunity employer. Paylocity is committed to the full inclusion of all individuals.
