1873

Regions Beyond Missionary Union (RBMU) was founded in 1873 by the Irish revivalist H. Grattan Guinness.

1928

World Team, originally West Indies Mission, was formed in 1928 in central Cuba by Elmer Thompson and B.G. Lavastida.

1961

She first attracted international attention in 1961 by winning the Wimbledon doubles championship with Karen Hantz; theirs was the youngest team to win.

1967

The first world championship was as a four-team invitational tournament in 1967, where Mt.

1971

The previous mark of 33 consecutive wins was held by the NBA’s 1971-72 Lakers.

1974

In Billie Jean King…of a group that founded World TeamTennis (WTT) in 1974.

1984

King retired from competitive tennis in 1984 and the same year became the first woman commissioner in professional sports in her position with the World TeamTennis League.

1999

Stefanie Graf makes her return to pro tennis for the first time since 1999 to play WTT. Martina Hingis makes her WTT debut and leads the New York Sportimes to their first title.

2005

Hingis lost only one set during the 2005 season and was named MVP of the WTT Finals.

2006

The United States Tennis Association honoured King in August 2006, when it renamed the National Tennis Center, home of the United States Open, the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

2007

Seven years later, the Capitals becomes the first team in WTT history to win six championships with the 2007 title.

2009

Martina Navratilova, playing for the Boston Lobsters in 2009, becomes the first player to play 20 seasons in WTT. Kim Clijsters comes out of retirement and makes her WTT debut for St Louis in July 2009.

2011

In 2011, the Washington Kastles completed the first undefeated season in WTT history (16-0), and won their 2nd WTT Championship with a victory over St Louis Aces.

2013

Before winning their 3rd consecutive and 4th overall championship in 2013, the Kastles became the first league champion to be invited to the White House to meet with the President.

2018

The United States has captured 10 world championships, including the most recent title in 2018 when Tom Schreiber scored the game-winning goal with just one second left to give the United States a 9-8 victory over Canada in Netanya, Israel.
