Wrestling coach job description

Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in sport assigned. Contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics.
Description:

* Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned
* Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship
* Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes
* Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis
* Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities
* Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation
* Work with athletic coordinator to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements
* Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program and make changes based on
* findings
* Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips
* Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices
* Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
* Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation
* Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
* Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within program
* Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing campus athletic equipment.
* Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned
* All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in a related field; valid Texas teacher certificate
* Four years experience as a coach or a participant in sport assigned
* Must have experience or a desire to work in a major metropolitan school district.
* General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
* Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
* Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes

Job Goals:

* Motivate, train, develop, monitor, and supervise, and oversee the wrestling program.
* Be committed to building an in-season and off-season wrestling program.
* Build relationships with and have a willingness to coach both beginners and advanced student-athletes.
* Instruct student-athletes on fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
* Instruct/guide student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence and good sportsmanship.

Performance Responsibilities:

* Cooperate in a timely manner with School Athletic Office and the District Athletic Department in regarding requests for information (i.e. Rosters, Physical Forms, Parent Permission Forms, Emergency Medical Forms, Pre/Post Season Reports, etc,) and/or any other information relative to the sport that might be periodically required.
* Meet all requirements of the District Board of Education and The Ohio Department of Education relative to the Coaches Tool Chest Training/Certification and Pupils Activity Permit.
* Check the status of academic eligibility for all prospective student-athletes.
* Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes, including timeliness to practices, being positive and enthusiastic in practices, being respectful, and practice constructive criticism while upholding the disciplines of the program.
* Set a positive example at all times while with student-athletes, be dressed appropriately at all practices and games, maintain a suitable sideline conduct at all times including the use of appropriate language.
* Follow the District Athletic Department Policy as outlined in the Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria as outlined in the job description.
* Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative policies set forth by the District Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, and the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).
* Schedule and complete a full season of contests.
* Begin pre-season practices on the first day permitted for the sport.
* Provide all applicable in-season training rules as well as any that may apply to out-of-season conduct to team members in writing prior to the start of the season. Follow appropriate due process procedures when violations occur.
* Participate in clinics and other available programs to improve coaching performance.
* Participate in School Event's (i.e., Awards Night Programs, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc).
* Show physical vitality and enthusiasm for the sport and use good judgment in decision-making.
* Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
* Is competent in techniques of the sport and student-athletes respond positively to directions given.
* Demonstrate the ability to adapt properly to changing game situations.
* Is well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport as well as look for ways to constantly improve knowledge and coaching techniques.
* Is innovative in using new coaching techniques and ideas in addition to already proven methods of coaching.
* Ensure that team is well prepared for opponent(s).
* Provide motivation for team to meet/exceed their goals and stress the value of acceptable personal behavior by each team member.
* Actively promote good sportsmanship at all times.
* Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.

Trainings/Certifications:

* Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate desired..
* Successful participation in a similar activity in high school and/or college. Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the high school or college level is desired.
* Provide a satisfactory result on a County Police Records Check, State BCII Check, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check. Possess an Ohio Department of Education Pupils Activity Permit. Provide completion of the Coaches Tool Chest Training/ Certification.
