Job Description:
Garfield Heights City Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Middle School Head Softball Coach to lead and develop the middle school softball program. The Head Coach will be responsible for fostering fundamental skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive experience for student-athletes. The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of softball, experience working with middle school-aged athletes, and a commitment to upholding Garfield Heights City Schools and OHSAA regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Athlete Development: Provide mentorship and guidance to student-athletes while promoting character development, teamwork, confidence, and personal growth.
Program Management: Plan, organize, and implement a middle school softball program that emphasizes fundamentals, safety, skill-building, and preparation for high school-level competition.
Compliance & Eligibility: Ensure all athletes meet academic, behavioral, and eligibility requirements in accordance with OHSAA and Garfield Heights City Schools policies.
Practice & Game Preparation: Create structured practice plans focusing on skill development and game readiness; develop game strategies appropriate for middle school athletes.
Safety & Conduct: Promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment during practices, games, travel, and all team activities.
Team Operations: Coordinate team communications, scheduling, equipment inventory, and game-day preparation.
Collaboration: Work closely with the high school softball program and athletic department to support smooth progression of athletes through the softball pathway.
Community & Family Engagement: Build positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and the community to encourage participation and support for the program.
Professional Growth: Stay current on youth coaching methods, OHSAA rules, and best practices for middle school sports development.
Other Duties: Perform other related responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration.
Qualifications:
Valid Pupil Activity Permit with the Ohio Department of Education
Satisfactory BCI/FBI background checks
Prior coaching or playing experience preferred (experience with middle school-aged athletes strongly encouraged)
Strong understanding of softball fundamentals and player development
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with students, families, and staff

As the Canine Coach you are responsible for leading the playroom for our furry friends by creating a safe and fun environment resulting in the “Best Day Ever” for our puppies! This position is fast paced and very rewarding for those who LOVE working with dogs!

Qualified applicants will have the following minimum requirements:
18 years of age or older
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable with dogs of all sizes and breeds
Ability to lift 35 pounds with no restrictions
Maintain a clean and organized workspace as Dogtopia is the cleanest facility any pet parent can choose
Maintain regular and punctual attendance
Embrace our operational, health, safety, sanitization, and security policies/procedures
Energetic and enthusiastic attitude, including the delivery of exceptional service to both our 4-legged and 2-legged clients!
Ability to build relationships and work as part of a team.
Ability to work weekends and some holidays
