Physician Editors ensure that topics address the important clinical questions that arise when diagnosing or managing a specific disorder, present information clearly and succinctly, and provide evidence-based and actionable recommendations for care. Training is overseen by at least two senior Physician Editors. Updating is an equally important component of the work and is usually initiated by the Physician Editor, who is responsible for monitoring the literature for new developments and identifying topics that need updating. Physician Editors also systematically review existing topics for clarity, completeness, and clinical relevance. This work is not done in isolation. UpToDate editors work closely with outside authors, section editors, editors-in-chief, and peer reviewers to ensure the material is accurate and free of bias. Position Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-driven individual to work within the Gene Delivery and Editing Process Development team. Our team develops the end-to-end processes and technologies to deliver the critical raw materials used in the manufacturing of engineered T cells. This project will focus on the optimization of Lipid Nanoparticle (LNP) processing conditions to improve biological performance. The intern will support the formulation, downstream processing, and characterization of LNPs to address yield loss and instability, ultimately improving T-cell transfection efficiency for gene delivery programs.
Key Responsibilities
Design and execute hands-on experiments to formulate LNPs using microfluidic systems and optimize downstream unit operations including buffer exchange, neutralization, and clarification.
Characterize LNP Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs)-including size, polydispersity (PDI), encapsulation efficiency, and potency-using Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Zeta potential, and fluorescence assays.
Perform ex-vivo cell culture and execute cell-based assays to assess T-cell transfection efficiency and link physicochemical improvements to functional delivery performance.
Design and analyze lab experiments using statistical Design-of-Experiments (DoE) approaches to identify conditions that improve LNP stability and recovery.
Investigate optimal freezing and thawing conditions to preserve LNP integrity.
Summarize and present scientific data, providing actionable insights to refine future LNP process control strategies.

The internships are unpaid and are 20 hours per week for three months. The internship is open to all-students and non-students. For students, the intern supervisor can work with advisers to provide college credit for the internship experience.
Interns research story concepts, conduct interviews and write articles. They also check facts, help with special sections, develop event calendars and sometimes write sidebars for longer stories. In addition, they assist with editorial research and art queries.
Qualifications
We are looking for applicants who are meticulous about accuracy; this is especially important for verifying facts, but it also applies to spelling, punctuation and usage. Applicants should have solid writing experience, enjoy conducting in-depth research about a wide variety of subjects, exhibit interest in learning about the magazine industry and possess strong communication skills. Applicants also need to be able to take direction. Interns will gain valuable self-editing and rewriting skills, enabling them to produce content that meets the needs of editors and readers. Writing or editing experience in newspapers or magazines is an asset, although any writing experience, including coursework, will be considered.
Internship hours are flexible, but we ask that interns work a fixed schedule, typically two full days and a half-day each week. Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break.
