Editor, Content and Thought Leadership
Writer And Editor job in Salt Lake City, UT
Job Description
Editor, Content and Thought Leadership
B2B Tech | Method Communications
Work Arrangement
The role is hybrid and required to work from Method’s hub office in San Francisco, New York City, or Salt Lake City at least two days per week.
The Opportunity
Editor: Where Your Journalism Skills Can Drive Business Impact
If you're a former journalist ready to expand your storytelling impact beyond traditional media, this Senior Editor role at Method is your compelling next chapter. You'll use the same instincts for news and trends, research skills, and narrative craft that made you successful in journalism. But now you'll help innovative companies tell their stories directly to the audiences that matter most.
Why This Role Is Ideal for You
Working alongside a team of former top-tier journalists, you'll maintain the editorial rigor and storytelling standards you're accustomed to, while gaining valuable business experience. Rather than chasing daily news cycles, you'll be able to dive deep into our clients’ industry opportunities, conduct thorough research, and craft substantive pieces that can influence and advance timely conversations.
The Work Itself:
Your day-to-day will feel familiar—interviewing executives, researching market trends, and writing and editing compelling content across formats from in-depth white papers to thought-provoking op-eds. The difference: Your stories will help challenger brands and industry disruptors build authentic authority in their markets. You'll work directly with clients — from initial strategy sessions through content creation and delivery — gaining exposure to the insights that matter most while leveraging your proven ability to distill complex information into compelling narratives.
Beyond Traditional Journalism:
This role offers the resources and time to explore different sectors thoroughly, collaborate with other experienced journalists, and see your work activated across multiple platforms to drive real business outcomes for our clients. You'll contribute to new-business pitches, helping potential clients envision how strategic storytelling can transform their market position.
And you’ll be helping drive Method's mission: We partner with companies challenging industry norms, giving you the opportunity to tell stories about genuine innovation rather than incremental changes. Your journalism background will be invaluable in helping these clients cut through the noise of uninspired B2B communications.
This position reports to the EVP of Narrative & Thought Leadership and offers the chance to apply your expertise in a strategic communications environment that values editorial excellence and authentic storytelling.
Responsibilities
Meeting with clients to ascertain their communications needs, with an emphasis on owned and earned content and thought leadership.
Brainstorming media-worthy content with colleagues and clients.
Conducting journalistic-style research and interviews and producing written drafts for editing by Method and reviews by the clients. Responding efficiently and cheerfully to such feedback, in a journalistic manner.
Creating social media posts, when requested by clients or Method colleagues.
Editing written content and providing constructive feedback,, whether the material is generated by clients or by Method colleagues.
Participating in new-business pitches by researching topics, developing media-genic ideas and turning them into a compelling story— particularly headline topics for the prospective client’s thought leaders - and formally presenting those ideas in the pitch.
What We’re Looking For
Proficiency with content management systems (CMS)
Social media platform expertise beyond just "creating posts"
SEO knowledge for content optimization
Minimum 5 years of professional journalism experience (or equivalent expertise and education) with strong reporting, research, and interviewing skills
Business journalism background, preferably covering technology, science, or related industry sectors
Deep understanding of PR and communications industry trends with experience in content strategy and thought leadership development
Exceptional writing and editing capabilities across multiple formats, from long-form articles to social media content
Proven ability to conduct in-depth research and translate complex topics into compelling, media-ready content
Strong client management skills with experience conducting needs assessments and presenting strategic recommendations
Understanding of both owned and earned media strategies with ability to identify and develop newsworthy story angles
Excellent time management and project coordination abilities to handle multiple client accounts simultaneously under tight deadlines
Collaborative mindset with experience providing constructive feedback and mentoring colleagues on written work
Bonus points if you have:
Analytics tools experience (Google Analytics, social media metrics)
Basic graphic design or multimedia content creation experience
Presentation and pitch development skills, including ability to create compelling visual materials and formally present ideas to prospective clients
Familiarity with email marketing platforms and project management software
Salary Ranges
We believe all employees should be rewarded competitively and equitably, using practices that are simple and transparent. We’ve provided the following salary range for California based on state regulations. Final compensation for this role will be determined by a number of factors including the candidate's education, market, and relevant work experience.
Salary range: $90,000 - $115,000

Relationships are paramount to life at Method, and we invest heavily in building and maintaining relationships with clients, journalists and each other. We work hard to deliver incredible results for our clients. We encourage new ideas, and we always celebrate wins together – both for clients and our teams.
Method is made up of an award-winning team. Not only does the agency win awards, our people are consistently recognized for their excellence. At MX, we seek to hire candidates who drive results and achieve successful outcomes. We utilize a hybrid work arrangement style, which may require both local and remote team members to be in the office when necessary, to kick off projects, hold cross team strategy meetings, or complete key deliverables. Remote team members will travel into the office four times per year, and MX covers travel expenses associated with this requirement. Both local and remote employees can take advantage of our incredible office space with onsite perks, company-paid meals, onsite massage therapists, sports simulator, gym, mother's lounge, and meditation room.
At MX, we are a high-performance organization that thrives on trust and results. This role is based in Lehi, Utah, with flexibility for both in-office and remote work. We believe in empowering our team members to deliver exceptional outcomes while taking advantage of our incredible office space when it best supports their work. Our Utah office features onsite perks such as company-paid meals, massage therapists, a sports simulator, gym, mother's lounge, and meditation room and meaningful interactions with amazing people. We encourage team members to come together in the office to collaborate, kick off key projects, or strategize cross-functionally, fostering connection and innovation.
