UC ANR Publications, the publishing arm of UC ANR, is responsible for the editing and graphic design of peer-reviewed materials produced by UC academics, UCCE personnel, and others. These publications are intended to benefit stakeholders in California's agriculture, natural resources, youth development and community nutrition sectors as well as the wider California population. Some publications appear in print and online. Many are available under an Open Access license, ensuring that UC research directly supports the communities it serves. Publications include single-page fact sheets, manuals covering all aspects of crop management, the California Master Gardener Handbook, and California Agriculture, the division's flagship journal.
Position Summary:
The Editor will oversee editorial management for manuscripts in production, perform developmental editing of complex scientific manuscripts; consult with and advise academic authors to ensure clarity and quality of final manuscripts; and uphold high editorial standards.
This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.
The home department for this position is Publishing. While this position normally is based in Davis, CA, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements for applicants living in the State of California at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University.

Works with Title Management database to schedule, track, and ensure publications remain on target.
Collaborates closely with the Production Supervisor to meet all production schedule milestones.

Special Conditions of Employment:

Manages content for internet or intranet sites.
Responsible for migrating content from an existing internal wiki site powered by Media Wiki to a new internal enterprise wiki site.
Scope of this position includes:
1. Reviewing existing wiki site to look for outdated or inaccurate content.
2. Use the Universal Wiki Converter (or similar tool) to export existing pages on Media Wiki site to format that is compatible with the enterprise wiki
3. Work with IT to upload content to new wiki and ensure it is completed successfully
4. Verify new Wiki content following upload and correct any formatting issues that occurred during the migration (i.e. fonts, images, URLs, file attachments)
5. Apply the appropriate Active Directory access control lists to wiki pages that require them.
6. Disable/delete content from the old wiki once it has been successfully migrated to the new wiki site.

Technical requirements include intermediate knowledge of CODING, JAVA, and TESTING.

The Los Angeles Times has an opening for a weekend editor who will oversee digital and print news operations on Saturday and Sunday, while taking on additional editing duties on weekdays. The weekend editor will work four days a week (Thursday through Sunday). On weekends, the editor will help to plan local coverage and oversee a rotating staff of reporters based throughout the state. The editor will identify and assign breaking news and feature stories and work with the photo and audience departments to assign compelling photos and videos. Under direction, the official Court Voice Writer is responsible for the verbatim official record; provides readback upon request; prepares certified transcripts of the proceedings; and performs other related duties.
Employment Standards/Typical Qualifications:
Possession of a Certified Court Voice Writer license, through the use of voice writing, issued by the Court Reporters Board of California, in accordance with the relevant sections of the Business and Professions Code as added or amended by AB 156. As our Demand Writer in our Personal Injury Pre-litigation department, you will have the opportunity to draft Personal Injury demand letters and obtain justice for our clients that underwent wrongful death, TBIs, catastrophic injuries, and major orthopedic cases.
Accountable for
Prepare successful demand packages for personal injury matters.
Draft well-written demand letters that clearly establish the facts of the case and outline the injuries and damages sustained by the client.
Calculate damages, including lost wages, property damage and medical expenses.
Qualifications
2 years of experience working in a personal injury law firm.
Ability to review and organize medical records and bills.
Must be able to perform at a high level in a fast-paced environment and work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience handling a large volume of personal injury cases and a proven track record of drafting successful demand letters.
Type at least 40 wpm.
Compensation
$25.00 - $31.25 per hour depending on experience

Learning Writer
to join our Learning team. As a Learning Writer, you will be responsible for documenting various procedures and creating training materials to educate personnel on those procedures. You will work alongside other Learning Writers, Training Specialists and Operations members at Collectors to learn the best practices of each department and clearly document them for incoming personnel, and other departments.

What You'll Do:
Work with a motivated team to document and help standardize processes and create training materials such as Process Manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),Work Instructions (WIs), presentation decks, and video modules
Assist the Learning Writers, Learning Specialists, and Learning Manager in researching and installing new training materials and tools that will enhance our training procedures and provide value to our employees
Collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across many areas of the business to ensure processes are captured correctly, receiving and providing considerable feedback
Assist with maintaining the Learning Resource Site, the departmental shared drive, and project management boards, keeping them up to date with changes/improvements
Determine gaps in training material or content that should be filled to ensure safety and productivity among staff members
Identify future training needs and create a curriculum, with the Learning Manager's assistance, to facilitate training
Be creative and design better ways to present information clearly using text, images, audio, and video to ensure better training outcomes in accordance with the company style guide and consistent voice
Proofread, format, and edit new and existing documents and presentations
Who You Are:

Hourly Range:
The hourly range for this position is $21.50 - $23.50. Entry level operations positions generally start at an hourly rate of $17.50. Actual compensation in this range will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including location, job level, prior experience, and skill set.

Description/Duties:
A writer for any Criterion section is expected to write various Criterion pieces per quarter, depending on need and after receiving explicit instruction from the editorial team.
All writers are expected to edit their work during multiple rounds of notes from the editorial team.
Writers must respond in a timely manner and are responsible for properly applying notes made by the editorial team.
Writers are responsible for conducting research or interviews when needed and instructed by the editorial team.
Writers are expected to attend any and all writer workshops when one is deemed necessary.
Writers must uphold journalistic standards and familiarize themselves with AP-style writing.
Regularly meet with respective section editors regarding pieces.
Stipulations:
Must be a registered La Sierra Student
Must complete Student Authorization Form with Silvia Stenner (Office of Student Life)
Must have received Work Clearance Approval from Human Resources before taking on assignments
Expectations:
Writers are not to exceed more than four hours clocked in per-pay period (2-week pay period)
