CLARKE SCHOOL OF LAW (UDC-DCSL) invites applications for a full-time legal writing instructor position to teach various first year and upper-level writing courses. The legal writing program uses simulated problems to teach doctrine and skills in legal analysis, legal research, and oral and written communication. The instructor will generally teach two sections of Lawyering Process, a first-year course, during the fall and spring semesters and one section of Moot Court during the summer. The position is a twelve-month appointment, starting in June 2025. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teach the required legal writing courses to first and second-year law students; Plan and develop legal writing and legal skills problems for these courses; Provide individual writing instruction to students; Grade and comment on legal writing and legal skills assignments; Cooperate and assist with other programs involving oral and written communication skills, including moot court competitions and other experiential learning opportunities; Support activities of the Writing Hub and supervise student volunteers; Coordinate of the integration of legal writing across the curriculum; Other duties as assigned by the Director of Legal Writing. The Writer will serve as a member of the Product Resources Content Team, drafting articles in the health, wellness, and commerce space for older adults and caregivers. Positions at this level require advanced knowledge and experience as well as strong project management capabilities. Incumbents are required to exercise latitude and independent judgement within their scope of work and usually require minimal oversight. Incumbents generally have five or more years of experience in their discipline and a bachelors degree or the equivalent, as well as substantive experience at this level. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as in-house writer for NCOA Product Resources, crafting unique and thoroughly researched product-focused commercial health and wellness content for older adults and family caregivers. Analyze and develop in-depth content based on detailed research briefs featuring the results of extensive product testing, consumer interviews and surveys, and ratings. Source and interview medical experts and other relevant professionals to add credibility and depth to articles. Work with internal subject matter experts to ensure accuracy of all content and its intended scope, as well as mitigate any possible brand risk. Deeply research information relevant to assigned stories and be able to interpret data in a digestible manner. Become an expert in product categories and stay informed on the latest product developments and/or relevant news and research. Demonstrate a meticulous approach to your work while meeting pre-set deadlines. Ensure all content meets NCOAs brand voice and tone, while maintaining SEO best practices for search. Demonstrate an openness to feedback and the ability to quickly implement edits into future content drafts. Other duties as assigned. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors or masters degree in English, journalism, or a closely related subject. 5-10 years of experience as a writer for digital and print publications or websites, specifically commercial consumer content. Must be able to submit 3-5 recent relevant health/wellness commerce clips. Exceptional writing and grammatical skills; ability to edit for accuracy, clarity, and quality. Organizational, administrative, and analytical skills and experience working closely with external stakeholders, content creators, and editors. Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Post onboarding, the expectation is to produce 3-4 commerce stories weekly. Solid knowledge of the complete Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams. Working knowledge of project workflow platforms (Asana preferred). Working knowledge of content management systems (Kentico/Kontent.ai preferred). Ability to interface with a variety of internal stakeholders and external partners and contribute positively to the team. Responsibilities include reviewing student data and assessments, collaborating with teachers, school leaders, and service providers, and ensuring all documents are accurate, timely, and legally compliant.
