JOB SUMMARY
The Customs Entry Writer is responsible for preparing, compiling and managing all documentation and records required to clear goods through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including negotiating with, retaining and service as an intermediary between airlines, shipping companies, trucking companies, shippers, consignees, bonded and other warehouses and the CBP.
Duties & Functions
• Make U.S. Customs entries under U.S. Customs law for customers under the supervision of the Customs House Broker.
• Ensure that entries are in compliance with U.S. Customs law under the supervision of the Customs House Broker.
• Ensure that all documents required by U.S. Customs regulations are correct and complete to include customer compliance under the supervision of the designated Customs House Brokers.
• Utilize experience and knowledge of CBP rules and regulations to classify goods and determine applicable duty rates.
• Prepare and file with the CBP all documentation required for goods to clear customs and enter the U.S.
• Thorough knowledge of all entry types including but not limited to - Formal, Informal, Warehouse Entry/Withdrawal, Carnets, TIB, IT, IE, T&E, etc.
• Examine shipment documents to ensure accuracy of reporting requirements to CBP including but not limited to Entered Value, Country of Origin, Terms of Sale, SLAC count, etc.
• Maintain up to date knowledge, including any needed continuing education, of the regulations and procedures of the CBP for the classification and entry of goods.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of all regulations and procedures of the Food and Drug Administration, Department of Transportation and other state and federal agencies regarding the importation and transportation of goods, including hazardous materials, food and live animals.
• Maintain and update customer/importers profiles.
• Perform customer service duties with correspondence to customs and overseas partners, emails fax, etc.
• Process ACH Statement payment to CBP.
• Perform other duties as requested by management.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education & Experience:
• Minimum requirement High School diploma or GED.
• Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience in importing or freight forwarding business.
• Must have basic training in ISO.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Ability to use basic math skills to calculate duties and freight, storage and other charges.
• Proficient computer knowledge to include Microsoft Applications and to conduct paperless entry of goods through the CBP computer system.
Physical requirements:

The University Writer will develop compelling content through engaging messaging and storytelling techniques that connect with a vast audience and influential stakeholder groups including prospective students, parents, alumni and donors. In addition, the position is responsible for developing engaging content for marketing and communications materials, write and edit reports, news releases and feature articles, website content, presentations, video scripts, donor solicitations and other forms of internal and external materials. The University Writer must write and edit copy to reflect the University's brand while maintaining a consistent voice, style, message and standards and serves as a creative support in the development of clear, persuasive and compelling narratives that support the organization's communications, marketing and strategic objectives. The University Writer will work as part of a dynamic and highly collaborative Marketing team in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Conceptualizes, writes, edits and proofs content for a diverse array of University projects, while ensuring compliance with AP and internal style guidelines and brand standards.
2. Supports the development of creative campaigns, ensuring all content aligns with both project-specific and department goals.
3. Content may include website copy, academic program descriptions, internal staff communications, fundraising communications, recruitment campaigns, magazine features and advertisements.
4. Meets with clients to develop content.
5. Manages multiple projects simultaneously and delivers projects to meet deadlines.
6. Regularly collaborates with the Marketing & Media Relations Team, as well as University clients across campus.
7. Additional job-related duties as required by the supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to succeed in a result-driven professional organization. Maintaining professional performance, demeanor, team-approach and focus on results while working under pressure in a dynamic environment. Customer, budget, quality and delivery conscious mindset. Ability to establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision and facilitate teamwork. In addition, a successful candidate will have a passion for writing for a wide range of audiences, a high level of creativity, the ability to produce editorial content in a fast-paced and deadline-orientated environment, and working collaboratively with faculty, staff and students. This position requires strong writing, editing and project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop impactful messaging. Additional qualifications specific to this position are below:
Minimum Education and/or Experience
* Bachelor's degree in writing, English or related field, plus at least three years of professional experience.
* Strong written and communication skills. Familiarity with journalistic styles, specifically knowledge of AP style writing guidelines, standards and ethics.
* Excellent history of copywriting, copy editing/proofreading and interviewing skills.
* Working knowledge in creating content for marketing campaigns, including experience writing for diverse audiences and editing high-quality content.
* Strong project management and communication planning skills coupled with an ability to understand and support strategic priorities.

We seek journalists with a commitment to accuracy and detail as well as a knack for telling Milwaukee's stories to our 200,000-plus readers. You'll be doing plenty of fact-checking. You'll balance that with some writing for our print editions and our website, milwaukeemag.com. You'll also be involved in larger research projects. You'll sit in on - and participate in - brainstorming sessions that help decide the direction of the magazine's editorial content. And the only coffee you'll get is your own. This is a professional role.
We take pride when former interns, having honed and expanded their skill set here, move on to full-time positions at newspapers, magazines or other communication jobs.
