Q3 Contracting, has immediate openings for experienced DesignTechnicians in Little Canada, MN. The responsibility of this position is to function as the primary contact for future and existing customers by providing cost effective designs that balance customers' needs in accordance with our customers standards and administrative guidelines.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Design safe operating facilities for new and existing customers according to Xcel Energy construction standards and interpret administrative instructions for consistent and cost-effective designs. Provide distribution design project management for most areas of design, limited only to the most complex. Responsible for the generation of additional company revenue through contacts with new business or existing customers.
Manage projects from initial customer contact through post project analysis. Establish and manage the construction work plan to meet the customers' schedule and design requirements as well as financial and budgetary requirements.
Obtain permits and easements for facilities in accordance with city ordinances, state, federal, and county agencies. Execute contracts and agreements in compliance with administrative instructions and regulatory requirements.
Represent the Company with government officials, contractors, city agencies, vendors, architects, and engineers to provide services to customers.
Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED. Min. of Assoc. Degree in one of the following fields of study: drafting, design, automation, electronics, mechatronics, engineering, GIS, other related fields of study. In lieu of an Assoc. Degree: a combination of education and experience in design/drafting, construction, project management, or electronics providing equivalent experience and knowledge. Minimum 2 years' experience as a Designer I or equivalent experience.
Proficient in one or more of the following: GIS, design software, work management programs, and related systems or related systems required. Knowledge of construction standards, materials, and technical codes.
Proficient in Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision. A Driver's License may be required.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CIVIL CAD TECHNICIAN
As a Civil CAD Technician, you are a vital member of our design team. Each day you come to work eager to tackle a variety of site development projects that include commercial, industrial, public works, and more. You take each project from concept to construction documents, and every step requires your excellent drafting skills in AutoCAD Civil 3D. For each project, you detail the site geometry, utilities, grading, and drainage, as well as the erosion and sediment control. As you do, you stick close to our client's specifications and our civil engineering design standards.
In order to identify any potential constraints on the project, you analyze surveys and field notes, among other materials. By anticipating possible problems in this way, you keep each project on time and within budget. You also research deeds, ordinances, technical reports, and various codes to ensure compliance in each area. Thomas & Hutton has an opening for an experienced Civil Engineering Technician in our Savannah, GA office with project experience with land development, roadways, water, and sewer. Qualified candidates will have 10+ years experience using CADD in the preparation of design drawings, exhibits, and reports. Demonstrated experience working on land development projects using Autodesk Civil 3D software is required. Typical Duties:
Under moderate supervision of a Project Engineer or Project Manager conducts tasks of complexity varying from basic to somewhat complex.
Prepares routine design calculations and collects or prepares data for use by others in complex engineering analysis or studies.
Applies moderate exercise of judgment or decision making regarding design issues and concepts.
Responsible for preparation of project plans, exhibits, and reports and may coordinate the work of other technicians as part of a project team.
May also prepare project specifications.
Prepares quantity estimates and cost estimates.
Proficient in the use of computer aided design tools for the preparation of construction plans, design considerations and quantity estimates.
Proficient in the use of CADD tools for the preparation of plans and exhibits and thoroughly understands and follows the company's graphic standards.
Ensures that work is being performed within the project schedule and budget.
Proficient in using and following company design standards.
Has minimal responsibility for client contact and coordination.
May prepare permit applications and bid packages.
May attend project meetings with clients, agencies or contractors.
Communicates project status to the Project Manager on a regular basis.
May provide input on the development and maintenance of CADD standards and details.
Provides input to Project Manager regarding project schedule.
Performs administrative tasks as necessary.
Other duties as necessary and/or assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements: Education: Minimum of high school or technical school training with courses in computer-aided drafting or equivalent experience. Skills:
Advanced knowledge of CADD and related design tools.
Advanced knowledge of Company graphic standards.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Strong communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to visualize objects, distances, sizes and abstract forms.
Ability to sit and use computer equipment, including mouse for extended periods
Frequent standing and walking.
Ability to interact both verbally and written
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
