This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time **Sr. Maritime & Intermodal Rail Facility Planner for our California, New York, and New Jersey Offices** . + Lead port and intermodal rail terminal infrastructure projects and pursuits with our Maritime Planning Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.
+ Serve as a project manager or task lead for multidisciplinary maritime planning projects and provide technical oversight and expertise on maritime and intermodal market analysis, logistics analysis, master planning, feasibility studies, due diligence studies, grant application support, business plans, concept design and port/terminal operator consulting.
+ Develop a client base for providing high level marine, port, and coastal engineering services including identifying additional business development opportunities.
+ Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
+ Remain current in latest marine, port, and coastal engineering techniques and practices.
+ Utilize and continue to develop WSP's proprietary port planning program to aid in the efficient preparation of master plans, comprehensive land-use models and due-diligence projects.
+ Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines, other engineers, building, infrastructure, transportation, and port authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Engineering, economics, or closely related discipline.
+ 10+ years of relevant post education experience in port planning/engineering discipline and prior marine, port, and coastal design experience.
+ Highly proficient with marine, port, and coastal engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
+ Strong knowledge of relevant marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
+ Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
+ Strong management skillset with a proven track record of handling multiple direct reports.
+ Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
+ Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
+ Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will build on their existing technical knowledge base to work on challenging and diverse tasks for dams and hydropower projects, conveyance tunnels, and water resource projects for a variety of domestic and international clients. The successful candidate will be working in conjunction with other engineers and geologists on multi-discipline teams to support project development including feasibility studies, detailed design, and construction support. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and with small and large teams to apply critical thinking skills to solve technical issues and develop project-specific solutions. The position will provide stimulating career growth opportunities including mentoring of less experienced staff.
The position has the option to work a hybrid schedule and may require travel to project sites.
Key responsibilities may include a combination of the following tasks, but not all are required.
- Perform civil, hydrologic, and hydraulic engineering analyses and modeling for dam, hydroelectric, and other energy-related projects including dam breach and inundation analysis, intake structure design, and spillway design.
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using programs such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (1D and 2D), LifeSim, and/or FLO2D.
- Prepare engineering designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Prepare construction drawings and specifications for design components including spillways, drop chutes, energy dissipation, and other hydraulic structures.
- Assist with feasibility studies by conducting research to assess issues and develop solutions.
- Prepare technical reports including field reports, technical memoranda, computation packages, feasibility reports, design and evaluation reports, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Prepare basic quantity and cost estimates.
- Provide engineering support for projects during construction.
- Participate in Construction Quality Assurance including the review of shop drawings and submittals, response to request for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
- Follow safe work practices and adhere to company guidelines for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
- Provide leadership, coordination, and ownership of tasks from initiation to successful completion.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to undertake infrastructure projects related to their planning, design, and engineering.
- Work in conjunction with engineers and other professionals to solve project challenges, performing design calculations as required.
- Develop familiarity with regulatory agency requirements, technical design standards, and industry standards and guidelines.
- Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
- Implement Stantec quality control and quality assurance processes for project deliverables.
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and training of less experienced professionals, as required.
- Develop client management and business development skills, such as preparing proposals.
- Participate in professional development and training activities.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Working knowledge of the principles of civil/hydrologic and hydraulics engineering.
- Familiarity with computer aided design drafting and spatial analysis programs, including Civil3D and/or ArcGIS applications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Sound organizational, technical, written, and oral communication skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to coordinate tasks with multiple individuals on a multi-disciplinary team.
- Willing and able to travel to conduct construction quality oversight work.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required. Off-road driving may be possible.
Education and Experience
- 5-10 years of work experience in civil/hydrologic and hydraulics engineering, dams experience is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required, Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in hydrology and hydraulics is preferred.
- California Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment.

Provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector; these facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities. Delivers work products at a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
+ With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and or other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
+ Assist with the development of project design requirements, while incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications.
+ Assist with identification of project site, design and construction related risks and providing input on mitigation activities.

Who You Are
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited program.
+ 0 to 1 years of experience;
+ Prior engineering internship experiences
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
