This Opportunity WSP is seeking a highly motivated Associate Water Resources Engineer to join our team in our Tucson or Phoenix, AZ offices. The following locations will also be considered: Lakewood, CO and Lander, WY. Other WSP locations may be considered for the right candidate. You will be engaged with multiple mining projects nationally and globally in providing stormwater management solutions. Tasks will include hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil design, fieldwork, project planning, effective verbal and written communication, data analysis, design, drawing support, permitting support, and construction support. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation to support engineering observations, calculations, methods, conclusions and recommendations for engineering and design projects. Ensures that projects are delivered, and responsibilities are adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds industry standards. Your Impact * Performs specific portions of broader projects under the supervision of an experienced engineer * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide stormwater management solutions for mining facilities for existing and potential clients * Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil design * Prepare detailed calculation packages including proper documentation and references * Assist with the development of technical reports, drawings and specifications * Prepare reservoir and pond designs including breach analysis, outlet works, and spillways * Design channels and energy dissipation structures that include concrete, riprap, articulated concrete block, fabric-formed concrete, and baffle blocks for erosion control * Work with CAD designers to produce drawings from conceptual to construction-level design including grading and drainage plans, profiles, details, and sections * Perform work in accordance with an agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule * Interact with clients, subcontractors, and other business partners in a confident and professional manner * Apply critical thinking skills to help solve complex problems * Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to complete design, permitting, operational optimization, and closure assessments for large mining operations * Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. * In addition to the core responsibilities listed above, this role may occasionally include: * Participate in the development of probabilistic, dynamic systems-based water balance and water quality models for the mining industry under the direction of intermediate and senior modelers * Support project teams with data analysis and interpretation * Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental engineering * Engineer in Training Certification and the desire to pursue a professional engineering license * 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience in water resources engineering including experience creating engineering designs and hydrologic and hydraulics models * Experience with industry software programs (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and AutoCAD Civil 3D) * Proficient knowledge of stormwater evaluation and design engineering principles, practices, process (e.g., hydrologic analysis, hydraulic analysis, stormwater management design) * Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles. * Experience producing high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects including technical memorandums and reports * Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to quickly recognize significant discrepancies and logic errors * Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel * Willingness and ability to listen carefully to instructions, assimilate large amounts of information, and adapt to changes quickly * Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. * Ability to work independently and in a team environment * Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek or standard work day. * Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. * Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and anti-harassment policies. Preferred Qualifications * Experience with frequency storm and probable maximum precipitation hydrologic analyses * Experience with hydraulic analyses and design of channels, culverts, bridges, flow measurement, and flood mapping * Experience with data analysis using tools such as R, VBA, MATLAB, or python and the ability to manage and manipulate large datasets * Experience interpreting hydrological and climate data * Experience analyzing and processing geospatial data using ArcPro or AutoCAD. * Experience with remote sensing data and gridded climate datasets * Master's Degree in Engineering with a focus on Hydrology/Hydraulics * Previous work experience in the mining sector * Field/Construction experience, basic First Aid and Adult CPR, and/or MSHA training desired. Your Impact * Provide engineering services in support of planning, studies, analysis, and design of water conveyance / distribution systems, as well as wastewater collection systems, which includes pump/lift stations, wells, chemical feed systems, and storage reservoirs * Primary focus for project work will be the development of engineering studies, design reports, construction documents, and construction oversight/administration related to water/wastewater infrastructure in the municipal and industrial markets. * Produce drawings, calculations, and other engineering documentation following good engineering practices, relevant codes, and standards * Create detailed designs of water and wastewater piping systems * Setup and perform hydraulic modeling for water and sewer systems * Prepare pump and piping system calculations * Perform pipe stress analysis * Develop / supervise preparation of technical pipe, pump, and equipment specifications * Check design computations and quantity estimates * Coordinate and interface with vendors * Prepare technical evaluations of supplier's proposals * Work with CAD designers to prepare plans/drawings for water and wastewater infrastructure systems using industry-standard design platforms, such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit, etc. Ability to use CAD software is considered a plus * Develop scope, costs, budgets and schedules for studies, design and construction services related to water and wastewater projects, including pipeline and pump stations. * Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects * Give effective presentations to clients * Work and communicate with project management team * Assure that all work on assigned projects is timely, accurate and of high quality * Organize, plan, and coordinate own work; and resources assigned on specific projects * Work with and mentor junior staff * Occasional field work and travel to project sites. Approximately 5% overnight travel. Who You Are Required Qualifications * BS degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering degree. MS is a plus * PE or PE eligibility required * Minimum 7 - 10 years + relevant experience * Demonstrated engineering experience in small to large-sized, multi-disciplined water/wastewater projects, including responsibility for client interactions and successful engineering project delivery with respect to scope, schedule, quality, and budget * Demonstrated experience with planning, studies, analysis, and design of water conveyance / distribution systems, as well as wastewater collection systems, which includes pump/lift stations, wells, chemical feed systems, and storage reservoirs * Project management responsibility experience preferred. * Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; and ability to work on multiple, unique assignments simultaneously * Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary * Ability to coordinate meetings, conduct effective client presentations, and prepare written reports * Self-motivated, team-oriented, hardworking, and intent on doing great work * Ability and willingness to travel to project sites for occasional field work.
