When the opportunity to partner with the University of Oklahoma at Norman in 1942 arose, the two men rightly saw it as a way to upgrade SIL’s academic credentials.
In 1942, Wycliffe Bible Translators Inc. was created.
Nida was SIL’s second PhD, graduating from the University of Michigan in 1943.
The first translation done by Wycliffe personnel (Kenneth Pike and Donald Stark) was completed in 1951 in the San Miguel Mixtec language of Mexico.
For various reasons, Nida would move to the American Bible Society full-time in 1953, where he would become well known for developing the Bible translation theory of dynamic equivalence.
They formed a sponsoring committee and invited the Summer Institute of Linguistics to hold an 11-week training course in the UK in 1953.
Pam Moxham (later Bendor-Samuel) was the first to join, in 1953.
By the time he retired as president of SIL in 1979, the organization had more than 100 members with earned doctorates.
Gary Simons (PhD, Cornell University, 1979) is SIL’s Chief Research Officer and director of the Pike Center for Integrative Scholarship.
In 1980, Wycliffe Bible Translators International was incorporated as a separate corporation from Wycliffe Bible Translators Inc.

In 1991, the decision was made to restructure Wycliffe International.
On 18 March 2000 the 500th New Testament was dedicated for the Suriname Javanese.

In February of 2011, Wycliffe International became Wycliffe Global Alliance.
In 2014, Wycliffe Associates developed and tested a streamlined Bible translation methodology, MAST—Mobilized Assistance Supporting Translation.
