Responsibilities Work in a hospital-based mammography unit

The Radiology Technologist provides high-quality intraoperative fluoroscopic imaging in a urology-focused ambulatory surgery center. In addition, this position serves as the facility's Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the radiation safety program in compliance with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Bureau of X-Ray Compliance, federal regulations, and accrediting body standards.
What You'll Be Doing
Clinical Imaging (C-Arm) Duties
Operate C-arm fluoroscopy equipment during urologic surgical procedures, including but not limited to:
Ureteroscopy and stone management
Ureteral stent placement/exchange
Retrograde pyelograms
Cystoscopic procedures requiring fluoroscopic guidance
Prepare, position, and protect patients to obtain optimal images while ensuring comfort and safety.
Collaborate closely with urologists and OR staff to provide real-time imaging guidance.
Apply ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
Maintain sterile field awareness and adhere to operating room protocols.
Document imaging procedures and radiation use in the medical record as required.
Has knowledge of imaging equipment connectivity with intraoperative PACS and RIS, troubleshoots device connection with imaging equipment.
Perform equipment checks and coordinate service for imaging equipment as needed.
Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) Duties
Serve as the designated Radiation Safety Officer for the facility.
Develop, implement, and maintain the radiation safety program in accordance with:
NJDEP Bureau of X-Ray Compliance regulations (NJAC 7:28)
OSHA standards
Applicable accreditation standards (AAAHC, etc.)
Maintain facility radiation registration and ensure compliance with all NJ state requirements.
Oversee personnel dosimetry program:
Distribute, collect, and review dosimeter badges

Investigate and document exposure variances
Conduct radiation safety training for clinical staff.
Ensure appropriate shielding, signage, and safe work practices are in place.
Coordinate required physicist surveys, equipment performance evaluations, and regulatory inspections.

What We Expect from You
Required
Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
ARRT (R) certification in Radiography.
Preferred
Experience in urology or genitourinary procedures.
Prior experience in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC).
Previous service as a Radiation Safety Officer or completion of formal RSO training.
Experience supporting lithotripsy or advanced stone procedures.
Active New Jersey Radiologic Technologist License.
