All exams must be performed using the ALARA principle to minimize radiation dose to the patient. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Positions patient under X-ray machine, adjusts immobilization devices, and provides appropriate radiation protection; adjusts switches regulating length and intensity of exposure Performs a variety of patient care activities to assist physicians including procedures, EKG's, phlebotomy and injections. Prepares reports and maintains records of services rendered; maintains radiological film files and storage, pulls X-rays as required for referrals and/or copying; keeps logs for x-rays sent out for referrals. Keeps an updated log that consolidates X-rays performed against reports received. Maintains supplies, equipment, practices OSHA safety standards, performs accurate, legal and ethical documentation at all times. Performs other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Must have excellent oral written and communication skills and empathy towards our patients at all times. Ability to effectively collaborate with team members, including doctors, nurses, front desk staff, center managers and market leaders. Mindset focused on solving problems for patients and achieving team goals. Knowledge of medical products, services, standards, policies and procedures. Skill in operating phones, personal computer, software and other IT systems. Must be detail-oriented to ensure accuracy of reports and data. Completion of a recognized two (2) year program in Diagnostic Radiology. Registration by the ARRT as a radiographer. Working knowledge of the methods and techniques of x-ray photography, including positioning patients, adjusting and operating equipment, and processing and developing x-ray films. Knowledge of human anatomy as related to diagnostic radiologic work. Knowledge of effective methods and techniques in administering diagnostic x-rays, of the hazards involved in this work for equipment operators and patients, and of effective precautionary measures. Ability to maintain records and files of photographic work. Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with physicians, patients, public, and other Medical Center personnel. Schedules and prepares patients for diagnostic x-rays. Loads film holders and cassettes. Takes and prepares diagnostic x-rays. Transports patients to and from radiology. Returns patients to rooms after completion of treatment or study. Requisitions drugs and supplies to maintain adequate inventory in examination room. Under direction of physician, administers intravenous media and inserts urethral catheters. Monitors patient reactions to procedures performed. Marks and sorts film for filing. Prepares x-ray envelopes and records. Files films and records. Operates computerized equipment and assists in making simple repairs to equipment. Assists in in-service orientation of newly hired departmental personnel. Serves as clinical instructor for radiology students including direct supervision of radiology students until they achieve competency and indirect supervisor of radiology students after they achieve competency. Evaluates students on their competency and completes monthly clinical rotation forms. Assists in cleaning diagnostic rooms and equipment. Makes simple repairs to equipment as required. May assist Special Procedures/CT Technologists in performing special examinations. Demonstrates effective judgement and ability to understand, react effectively and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served.
