POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of a Workflow Coordinator, Manager/Supervisor and or Team Leader, performs or assists in radiographic procedures at a level that does not require direct supervision over technical detail. Assumes responsibility for a designated area or procedure as may be required.

6. Mentors students in the clinical and ethical aspects of the Radiologic Technologist profession.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) National Board, and have a State of Connecticut License to practice Radiographic technical procedures or receive within 3 months of graduation.
• On an on-going basis the incumbent must obtain the mandatory number of continued educational units (CEU's) needed to maintain the currency of state licensure.
• Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire and maintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN in this role.
EXPERIENCE:
• Must be fully knowledgeable and capable of performing independently in at least two modalities.
• Must have a complete working knowledge in the principals of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique and radiation protection as it relates to Radiology practice.
• Radiologic Technologists must meet the ECHN age specific knowledge/skill requirement, annually complete ECHN's mandatory education program.

Position Summary:

Job-Specific Competency
1. Assures that patient's clinical data coincides with and matches the type of exam that is being ordered. Follows up with Doctor's office when exam ordered is in question and does not seem reasonable given the patient's clinical record.
2. Assist Radiologist in interventional procedures. Coordinates patient's medical needs with the Radiology Nurse. Assures that room is properly equipped for procedure and cleaned appropriately post procedure.
3. Assures female patients of child bearing ages are screened for possibility of pregnancy.
4. Demonstrates skill in IV insertion.
5. Documents exams into radiology system to ensure proper billing.
6. Independently runs one's own schedule and properly documents patient flow while remaining sensitive to patients care and other co-workers needs and desires. Remains flexible in patient flow in order to accommodate daily emergency calls and requests for inpatient procedures. Assists in obtaining transportation for patients when procedures are scheduled by internal Hospitalists, Physicians, etc.
7. Demonstrates competency in performing all types of CT scans
8. Processes CT exams utilizing the teleradiology system during off shift hours. Able to trouble shoot problems and contact correct help lines if necessary.
9. Demonstrates the ability to choose correct protocols for patients based on age and size.
10. Accurately completes computer (Meditech) patient procedure documentation. Assures the accuracy of documentation understanding that all items will be charged to the patient's hospital bill. Submits correctly documented and labeled exam to the Radiologist and is available for review and discussion. Reviews each exam for technical accuracy.
11. Transports patients when needed.
12. Performs quality assurance in accordance with the American College of Radiology guidelines for CT.
13. Reviews post instructions to patient (example: hydration, when physician will receive results)
14. Demonstrates ability to trouble shoot any electronic equipment such as scanner, workstations, and printers.
15. Independently responds on a call basis to perform procedures. Drives to affiliate and/or contracted location to provide services as may be required.
16. Works cooperatively and exhibits Core Values at all time in order to accomplish all tasks as a member of the Medical Imaging Team.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
• A high school diploma or GED equivalent; graduate of an ARRT approved Radiological Technology School program is required.
• Registration and certification with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists and licensure with the State of Connecticut are required.
• Must remain current with ARRT continuing education requirements and maintain an active ARRT certificate.
• Advanced certification from the ARRT in Computerized Tomography is expected from the incumbent within one year of hire.
• Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire and maintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN in this role.

Position Summary:

Key Accountabilities:
Performs Radiography and Mammography examinations on identified patients according to department and procedures and protocols by positioning patients, preparing contrast medias, selecting anatomic and technical parameters accurately, and selecting the correct exposure factors utilizing the assessment of patient age, pathology and diagnosis to produce reliable and informational data.
Ensures optimal technical quality and accuracy of all mammographic examinations according to MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act), the American College of Radiology (ACR), and FDA quality control requirements.
Accurately inputs data into the RIS by tracking procedure performed as well as data required in order to capture exam and supply charges, resource allocation and other relevant information. Transfers correctly annotated images into PACS.
Develops and evaluates images for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
Obtains all relevant patient information, and assesses physician's order and/or requisition for completeness by reviewing the clinical information, pertinent laboratory results and patient's chart to ensure the correct procedure is performed and proper patient preparation is administered on the correct patient. As well as educates and assists patients in hereditary cancer risk assessment testing.

Under the general supervision of the radiologist, provides diagnostic service for patients of all ages undergoing diagnostic studies in the department of radiology. Multi-skilled technologists demonstrate the skill to use two or more radiographic equipment to produce quality images for radiological diagnosis. On-the-job training for those that are x-ray experienced and willing to be cross trained.
Must accurately interpret a physician's instructions, routine procedural protocols, prepare and operate the radiographic and mammographic equipment, associated software and equipment and position the patient to capture the appropriate images.
Document all patient related information in radiology information system in a timely manner based on patient and radiologist workflow.
Acquire patients' chart data/requisition and reviews both to determine correct room set-up and learn of any specific medical problems, contraindications to the study and verify that the study being ordered correlates to the diagnostic needs.
Maintain all aspects of the radiographic and mammographic area including technical and clerical components to ensure proper quality assurance results, maintenance of required documentation and keep the area in a state of inspection readiness and compliance.
If mammography certified: Actively participate and maintain detailed follow up of BIRADS category 0 mammographic records to ensure compliance with MQSA/ACR requirements.
If MRI certified: Screen patients, employees, and visitors to maintain a magnetically safe environment according to the American College of Radiology standards.
Educate patients regarding procedure, equipment, and exam to ensure understanding and safety.
Provide coverage as needed (i.e., in the event of call off or extended patient schedules).
Provide instruction/mentoring to new hires. Continuously strive to learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation programs.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE QUALIFICATIONS:
American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), RT
Required: Registered by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (RTR). Connecticut Radiographer License
Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Job Description
The Radiologic Technologist (X-Ray Technologist, Radiographer) operates equipment and performs Radiologic procedures by positioning patients and preparing contrast medias to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on patients to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment.
Qualifications
Current State of CT Radiographer license required
Graduate of AMA approved Radiologic Technologist program preferred
CPR validation within 3 months of hire
