About The Role: Underwrite and manage the Central region for the Commercial Surety business unit. Overall responsibilities include approving all commercial and commercial contract surety bonds within your authority, leading a team of underwriters, managing agency relationships and appointments, marketing for new business, and budgeting and planning for the region. The goal of this role is to achieve minimum loss ratio and maximum profitability for the region.
Essential Responsibilities:
* Effectively manage a team of underwriters.
* Develop a one-to-three-year regional strategic plan (including revenue, commissions, expenses, and claims).
* Manage the expense budget for the central region.
* Ensure profitable underwriting decisions through appropriate financial analysis and credit review.
* Review and approve new and renewal business within parameters of granted authority.
* Maintain current underwriting files in accordance with the Swiss Re Surety Group Procedure Manual for Commercial Surety.
* Enhance existing agency relationships while identifying and securing new agency relationships.
* Maintain a strong working relationship with internal departments such as Claims, Legal, Operations, and Accounting.
* Ensure strong visibility by participating and attending external and internal functions, including Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Surety Group regional meetings, as required.
* Manage any special projects as delegated by the Zone leader.
About You:
* Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in business, preferably finance or accounting, or, the following years of relevant experience in commercial surety underwriting.
* 10+ years of surety underwriting experience.
* Strong marketing skills and ability to obtain new business and work with commercial clients.
* Experience managing a team.
* Strong competency in quantitative and financial analysis.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Competent computer skills including knowledge of Excel and Word.
* Ability to travel up to 35%.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $156,000 to $246,000. The specific salary offered for any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
Swiss Re has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office three days per week. The ideal location for this role is Schaumburg, Ill. Other locations within the central region would be entertained.

* Maintain strong client focus by aggressively and proactively analyzing issues, providing support, and assuring client satisfaction in a timely fashion.
* Complying with legal and regulatory requirements, investigate, evaluate, and settle claims, applying technical knowledge and people skills to reach fair and prompt claim resolution.
* Complete detailed reviews of claim related issues, including coverage, liability, and damage assessments, and document the claim file appropriately.
* Set and maintain appropriate and timely indemnity and expense reserves.
* Formulate and execute negotiation and resolution strategies.
* Evaluate claims data to assist with identifying claim trends.
* Support Underwriting in connection with Claims information and consultation on coverages.
* In this role, you will be working with other Claims Handlers dedicated to working on Lawyers Professional Liability Claims. Our team also handles other types of claims, including U.S. Agents claims, and has a strong emphasis on quality and customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provides medical services at the scope and level of a Physician to preserve the health of employees and client personnel.
* Collaborates with the healthcare team to provide patients with critical medical care services within the standard of care for critical care patients.

* Advanced Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
* Proficiency with computer and common office equipment, as well as with MS Office products required.

About the Team:

North American Retail Property is a foundational line of business for SwissRe Corporate Solutions that is at the core of our strong brand. Risk transfer solutions offered through this channel vary from ground up quota share, shared and layered, and single carrier placements. This team also works with our alternative risk transfer group to structure innovative and unique solutions for our clients and brokers.
About You:

* Knowledge of complex shared and layered program structures as well as 100% Single Carrier business
* Skills working across diverse occupancies including heavy manufacturing preferred
* In depth knowledge of insurance and commercial property underwriting in the central region
* Proficiency in the use of underwriting tools, applications, and guidelines
* Strong broker and client network in the local region
* Solid experience and understanding of Nat Cat and man-made risk management and loss prevention

Some travel within the region, including air travel, for client/broker meetings will be required. The role is located in our Chicago, IL office. Swiss Re has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office three days per week. The estimated base salary range for the Senior Underwriter level is $156,000 to $234,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity, specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. Qualifications:

Partner with regional underwriters in the end-to-end processing of new and renewal business.
Evaluates new and renewal submissions against prescribed criteria to determine completeness; documents outstanding items and include them in communication to an underwriter for review.
Assists in the follow-up and securing of outstanding items from the broker.
Works closely with underwriters and CoE partners to develop and deliver tailored solutions.
For accounts they are responsible for, identify and resolve account alerts and blocks during the submission process to avoid account conflicts.
Upon underwriting instructions, forwards individual lines of business to Shared Services for rating.
Trains on and demonstrates proficiency in utilizing underwriting systems.
Perform data analytics, remodeling, when necessary, referral documentation preparation and completion, as well as form checklist and working approval. This may include (depending on LOB):
Review location data and CAT modeling results that are reported accurately, as appropriate.
Analyze loss information and financial statements to facilitate quote development. Pre-populate loss rating models.
