XPO Logistics company history timeline

1989

Express-1 Expedited Solutions was founded in May of 1989 by Michael Welch and Keith Avery.

1997

Jacobs founded United Rentals in 1997 and led the company for 10 years as chairman, including six years as chief executive officer.

2007

As of 2007, Express-1 was one of the largest ground expedite companies in the country serving over 1500 customers throughout the continuous 48 states and Canada.

2011

Prior to starting XPO in 2011, Mr.

In March 2012, XPO opened a national operations center in Charlotte, N.C. and listed its shares on the New York Stock Exchange in June of the same year.

Wilkerson joined XPO in 2012 to spearhead the growth of the company’s flagship truck brokerage hub in Charlotte, North Carolina.

2016

In June 2016, XPO was included in the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations based on revenue.

2017

He joined the company in 2017 as vice president, financial reporting and technical accounting, and was responsible for XPO’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as the technical accounting function.

2019

By May 2019, XPO was ranked 180th on the Fortune 500 list.

2020

In December 2020, XPO announced plans to spin off its logistics segment as GXO Logistics, creating two, independent companies: XPO as a provider of freight transportation services and GXO as the world's largest pure-play provider of contract logistics services.

2021

Jacobs serves as chairman of the board of GXO Logistics, the 2021 spin-off of XPO’s global logistics segment.
