E.M. Reed and James R. Coe founded the Yakima Herald in February 1889.
These frequent changes in ownership perhaps reflect the financial difficulties businesses in the Yakima Valley faced following the Panic of 1893.
In 1898, Robert McComb also purchased an interest in the Herald, and George Tuesley's brother Walter joined the staff.
Bailey left the Herald in 1899 to work for a steamboat company.
On November 28, 1905, George Tuesley installed a linotype machine and started publishing the daily Yakima Morning Herald in addition to the weekly Herald.
The weekly Herald ceased publication in 1914.
