Yakima Valley College was founded in 1928 as Yakima Valley Junior College when the Yakima School District decided to create a junior college.
Raymond began as a Trustee on the Board in 1930.
The college's first classes were taught at Yakima's Columbia School building and had its first graduating class in 1930.
She served as President/Chairman of the Board beginning in 1933.
The official title was changed to Chairman of the Board in 1941 when the state legislature provided that any junior college complying with certain provisions could receive state funds.
Raymond continued to hold the position of Chairman of the Board until her death on April 15, 1947–the same year the college merged with the Yakima School District No.
The first building on the college's new campus was dedicated in 1949 and named after its first president, Elizabeth Prior.
On May 8, 1967, Raymond Library was completed and dedicated in memory of the late Mrs.
In 2008 the building was totally remodeled and an additional area was added to the front to provide study space, comfortable seating, and an open vista of the campus.
That building was razed in 2017 to make way for the campus’s central plaza.
