How this role contributes to the Y's mission: As a Camp Specialty Leader for Y Camp, you will plan and lead full-day curriculum based camp programming & activities for campers in the specialty area. Under the supervision of the Swim Director or other assigned associate, Lifeguard 1 is responsible for the safety, cleanliness, and operation of the swimming pool during operating hours. The primary function of the Lifeguard 1 will be to safeguard the health and safety of members, class participants, and guests; and enforce guidelines and safety policies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Reports to work in uniform a minimum of ten minutes prior to assigned shift in order to receive communications and instructions from supervisor or previous lifeguard. * Attend regular in-service training. * Responsible for safety of all swimmers during shift and for the interpretation and enforcement of all pool rules. * Responsible for chemical reading of pool conditions according to bathing code. Adjusts pool as necessary. * Responsible for the upkeep of the pool area and equipment and notifying the supervisor of any needed repairs or adjustments. Responsible for the supervision and safety of a group of campers. Assists with the planning and implementation of activities to meet the camp curriculum requirements. Is a proactive and supportive team member in meeting quality and customer service initiatives. Position is seasonal but will require up to 40 hours of pre-season training. You will leverage your enthusiasm in supervising, participating with and engaging campers to create a high quality, fun camper experience. As a Camp Assistant Director, you'll contribute to the Y movement by providing experiences that lead to a summer of adventure and a lifetime of memories. You will promote, model, and implement behavior management strategies for Camp Directors, Camp Leaders and campers and their families. You will leverage your enthusiasm in supervising, participating with and engaging campers to create a high quality, fun camper experience. As a Health & Behavioral Specialist, you'll contribute to the Y movement by providing experiences that lead to a summer of adventure and a lifetime of memories. Responsible for planning and leading curriculum-based activities with a group of children in a specialty area. Maintains and organizes all equipment/materials for the designated activities to achieve optimum use of resources. Supervises both campers and staff to ensure a high-level of program quality, engagement, and an excellent camper experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The candidate must possess the ability to follow a curriculum-based activity plan that meets demographics of campers while keeping in mind budgetary constraints. They must be able to supervise staff and campers. * Lead in the development of age-appropriate activity plans according to the camp curriculum in specialty areas including creating a mode/sample or instruction. * Actively engages all campers and staff in activity, (including being in the pool during designated swim times) planning alternative activities or follow-up activities as needed. * Support routine tasks of face counts, medications, behaviors, etc. * Maintain resources and materials to ensure a clean, safe environment. * Keep materials organized and in good repair throughout the summer. * Communicate supply and ordering needs in a timely manner to the Camp Director. * Assist in special program areas and activities including but not limited to: waterfront, pool, nature, camp-wide activities, arts and crafts, ropes, marksmanship, homestead and horses as directed. (as applicable by camp) * Engage and support counselors and junior counselors, and share necessary information from camp leadership * Reports to work on time and in uniform for all scheduled shifts, including weekly and/or other designated meetings * Promotes positive character values in a caring camp environment * Attend all training and meetings within the designated time frame. * Drive Y minibus for teen camp field trip purposes as applicable/needed * All other duties as assigned. This position is also responsible for assisting with safety, cleanliness and operation of the swimming pool during operating hours. The primary function of the Pre- Lifeguard associate will be general support to maintain safety for our members on the pool deck.
