Ymca Of Central Stark County (ohio) company history timeline

1886

In 1886, the Canton YMCA was reorganized and charted on August 25th of that year.

1906

By 1911, however, a piece of property came into existence on Mud Lake, later called Turkeyfoot, and some permanent fixtures were made possible in 1916, with a one acre site called Camp Inawendewin. It all began in 1906 when the Canton YMCA conducted the first boys' camp in Canton, with about 30 boys attending.

1927

In 1927 W.H. "Boss" Hoover contributed $5,000, and at that time permanent waterfront fixtures were added.

1930

In 1930, H.W. Hoover presented the camp with a check to build a dining hall.

1934

Further expansion of the camp took place in 1934, when adjacent property became available.

1956

A committee of the Camp Board of Managers was appointed in 1956-57 to select the site suitable for a new camp not too far from Canton.

1957

In 1957, a joint Canton Community fundraising project was begun by the Knights of Columbus.

1958

And in 1958, the first 100 boys entered through the gates for the first summer at YMCA Camp Tippecanoe.

1965

In 1965, the P.L. Stewart farm of 75 acres, which was adjacent to the existing camp, became available.

1966

The property was purchased for $25,000, and in 1966 the new property was given the name C Bar T Ranch.

1998

The name of the Canton YMCA was changed several times over the years before becoming the YMCA of Central Stark County in 1998.
