The Swim instructor plans and delivers effective swim instruction, using the Y of the USA swim curriculum, in a designated program area for YMCA members,program participants and non-members. Instructors must be knowledgeable, punctual, professional, and show concern for class participants. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Demonstrate skills and explain them clearly to class members. Instructs at the appropriate skill and age level for the class. Plans each teaching class in advance, prepares to start class on time, with proper material, equipment, and in proper attire. Observes all YMCA attendance and safety rules when teaching classes. Starts and end class on time. Maintain positive rapport with participants and parents of participants. Conducts all classes in accordance with YMCA of Cleveland standards and guidelines. Notifies supervisor, in a timely manner, of any problems relating to the class or program area. Is responsible for the safety of all participants, knows emergency procedures and the location of all emergency equipment. Gathers periodic participants feedback through distribution written evaluation provided by the Program Director. Leaves program area in a safe "closed down manner". TEEN LOUNGE INSTRUCTOR Job Description Purpose: The purpose of the Teen Lounge program is to provide participatory recreational services for Boys & Girls Club members. This is accomplished through the implementation of a weekly program plan that includes tournaments and contests, skills classes, and participatory games and group activities. The Teen Lounge is a supervised area where members avail themselves to a variety of social and recreational activities. Mentoring, both individually and in groups, occurs daily in the Teen Lounge. Part-time hours are either 3:00pm-7:00pm or 3:30pm-8:00pm, depending on which club you are assigned to during the school year. Summer hours are from 12:00pm-5:00pm at all clubs during the summer break. Starting pay range is $14.00 per hour based on experience. Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Team Coach provides leadership in the preparation, planning, and operation of swim team practices at their assigned branch while coordinating with the other branch for competitive meets. Responsibilities: Build effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and encouraging parental support and involvement Identify and recruits potential volunteers Instruct and provide feedback on technique, allowing for movement up through the swim team groups Provide leadership and direction for assistant coaches and support volunteers. Prepare and plan schedules and achievement guidelines for practices, leading practices. Coordinate with the other Swim Team Coaches and Aquatics Directors to plan swim meets. Plan and coordinate branch team gatherings, end of season celebrations and other events. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age. Swim Experience is required. American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required and can be provided by the YMCA after hire. Prior coaching experience preferred, and working knowledge of rules and regulations. Prior USA swimming instructor certifications (Coaching 101 & 201) preferred. Able to demonstrate correct swim techniques and strokes.
