    Job Title: Personal Trainer, Jim & Heather Gills Branch YMCA Description: Designs personal fitness programs for people with diverse backgrounds and abilities. Instructs and educates members in proper strength, cardiovascular and overall wellness training principles in individual or small-group settings. Educates and enforces operational guidelines and regulations with all members. Promotes healthy living for personal training clients and staff, while working in a results-driven, team atmosphere. Duties: Develops safe and effective personalized training programs for clients including cardiovascular, strength training, and flexibility components, based on client's goals and motivations. Observes clients in exercising and demonstrates correct techniques to minimize injury and improve fitness. Gives alternative exercises during workouts for different levels of fitness and skill level. Monitors clients' progress and adapts programs as needed. Maintains professional standards among clients including punctuality, proper attire and the creation and maintenance of a friendly, safe and motivating training relationship. Contacts and sets up initial meetings with prospective clients, promoting personal training, while also providing information on general YMCA programs as needed. Properly completes and turns in all paperwork and digital formats as per personal training accounting policies and best practices. Attends all personal trainer staff and wellness training meetings, mandatory branch staff meetings and continuing education sessions. Performs fitness consultations, assessments and orientations. Communicates any equipment problems, member concerns, or suggestions to the Wellness Director Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations for fitness activities, and the proper use of exercise equipment. Gives clients information or resources about nutrition, weight control, and related lifestyle issues. Gives emergency first aid if needed, and fills out appropriate incident reports when necessary. Attends required abuse risk management training. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements. Adheres to job specific risk management responsibilities. Pass a 10-panel drug screen. Clear a Level 2 background check* Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age ACE, AFAA, NASM, NSCA, and ACSM or other nationally accredited organization certification prior to employment Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification All required association training completed as per HR directives Newly certified trainers must shadow an experienced, certified personal trainer (2 years or more experience) for a minimum of 2 sessions/shifts at the discretion of the Wellness Director Must be able to articulate and communicate effectively while instructing participants in proper execution of weight bearing and cardiovascular exercise. Must have current knowledge of strength training guidelines and ability to modify exercises for special populations when needed. Introduces new members to group exercise communities based on their health and well-being goals. 4. Utilizes tools and information for the purpose of increasing member knowledge of wellness as well as wellness programs provided through the YMCA (handouts, schedules, etc.) 5. May conduct post-enrollment interviews to understand new members' definition of well-being, personal goals, cultural background, healthcare needs, diverse abilities and interests and develops plans to meet their individual needs. 6. Refrain from writing diets, prescribing supplements, or diagnosing/curing any type of injury or illness; always referring members to a doctor when health or well-being is questioned. 7. Stays current with trends in the field and exercise industry. 8. Maintains and cleans equipment according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor. 9. Plays a role in organizing and securing gifts for the annual campaign. 10. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations. 11. Attends all staff meetings 12. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum age 16. Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED & First Aid and New Employee Orientation. Training to complete within 30 days of hire: The Ys Foundations of Strength & Conditioning. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents. Must have a passion for learning, working with youth/families, and sports in general.
