Job Summary: This SwimInstructor In-training will shadow certified swiminstructors while working to obtain required YMCA SwimInstructor Skills Verification up to but no longer than 90 days of hire date.
Provide excellent customer service in a safe, enjoyable, and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and satisfaction in accordance with the YMCA policies and procedures.

Essential Functions: Shadow and assist certified swiminstructors and learn programming and emergency procedures.
Know, understand, and consistently communicate policies and procedures for the pool, body of water and whirlpool.

Relationships: This position reports to the Aquatics Supervisor/Aquatics Director who reports to the Senior Director of Aquatics/Senior Aquatics Manager.
The incumbent interacts regularly with their supervisor, staff, volunteers, and participants.

Qualifications: Required Minimum age of 16.
Verification of SI readiness required within 90 days of hire.
Complete YSL V6: Observe & Communicate, YSL V6: Orientation Principles of Youth Development, YMCA SwimInstructor Skills Verification within 90 days from date of hire.
Patience and the ability to communicate with all ages and levels of swimmers.
Demonstrated ability to swim in shallow and deep water, and tread water (Stage 4 level swimming skill) Dedicated to member safety and the mission and philosophy of the YMCA.

Ability to support child or adult body weight in the water.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the SwimInstructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons in a safe, professional and caring manner according to the established curriculum to ensure the participants have an overall positive experience and eventually progress to the next level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepares and carries out daily lesson plans according to established class requirements.
Keeps accurate records on progress of individual students and make decisions on appropriate class levels.
Teaches in the water every class and never turns back to the class or leaves the class unattended.
Enforces specific safety rules and regulations to prevent risks to participants.
Completes and submits progress reports and midsession reports.
Presents materials that are challenging yet appropriate for every class member and class level.
Sets out necessary equipment needed for class and puts equipment away after class.
Records daily class attendance roster and communicates with parents/guardians about child's progress in class when needed.
Secures a qualified substitute for replacement when unable to teach a class and notifies Aquatics Director in advance, when possible.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

• Ability to support child or adult body weight in the water.
• Must be able to remain alert with no lapses of consciousness in a warm environment with air temperatures of 80 degrees or higher.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize and remedy hazardous/dangerous situations.
• Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations.
• Communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
• Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time in a warm pool environment.

Our gymnastics program includes classes ranging from Parent/Tot through High School and Competitive Team. We are currently seeking qualified individuals to help coach our competitive gymnastics team. The “Spirits” competitive team is comprised of USAG levels 2-10 and all Xcel levels. Team members work on developing skills, conditioning, and dance and offer opportunities for growth in a safe, enthusiastic and motivating environment. Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of gymnastics skills and rules and safety awareness are required.
Excellent organizational and communication skills to effectively interact with gymnasts, parents, and staff members.
Personal experience as a gymnast, background in Y sports philosophy, and experience teaching or coaching at individual or group levels are beneficial.
Strong leadership abilities and the capability to motivate and inspire gymnasts.
Certifications:
CPR/AED/First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities:
Actively scan the pool deck and maintain a safe and welcoming pool environment
Enforce all YMCA pool rules
Respond to all pool emergencies and perform first -aid while on duty
Teach swimming lessons to YMCA standards
Communicate with supervisors, staff, members, and guests in a concise and positive manner
Requirements
Must be at least 15 years old
Lifeguard Certification (for lifeguards only)
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification (for lifeguards only)
