Yoh company history timeline
By the 1950's, Day & Zimmermann was operating throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Central and South America, and has grown steadily in reputation and expertise.
In 1951, the company began its operation of the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant in Texarkana, Texas.
He is succeeded by W. Findlay Downs, one of the pioneers at Day & Zimmermann, who would retain his position as president until 1955.
The true seeds of the modern Day & Zimmermann were sewn in the 1960's, when it was bought by the H.L. Yo Company.
During the 1960's, when the United States was rapidly developing space exploration, the Yoh Company helped with the crucial program, including design of the Mercury and Gemini capsules.
In 1961, Day & Zimmerman was acquired by the engineering firm of H.L. Yoh Company for about $2.5 million, creating one of the largest technical firms of its kind in the United States with 3,300 employees.
Yoh is a business unit in the larger company Day & Zimmermann, with which it merged in 1961.
American Machine and Foundry (AMF) Company selects the Yoh Company, in conjunction with the St Louis Car Company, to design and build the monorail for te 1964 New York World's Fair.
Day & Zimmermann continued to operate the plant for over 40 years, and during this time, in 1965, the plant was awarded a presidential citation for outstanding contribution to greater economy and improvement in operations.
When the Penn Central Transportation Company declares bankruptcy in 1971, Day & Zimmermann is called in to perform a system-wide asset appraisal, which takes several years.
The younger Yoh continued to head the company, and as his fellow investors from the 1975 buyout retired and sold their interests to him, he became the principal owner.
1975: Harold L. Yoh retires and sells Day & Zimmermann to his son, Harold L. 'Spike' Yoh, Jr.
Yoh Jr. continued to head the company and was the principal owner; his fellow investors from the 1976 buyout eventually retired and sold their interests to him.
Day & Zimmermann engineers work on a huge expansion project at San Antonio International Airport that was delivered in 1984 on-time and under budget.
In 1984, the company wins a contract for loading and off-loading ships around the world.
The Alamodome, financed through a voter-approved tax increase and completed in May 1993, was built on the grounds of a former industrial site.
In late 1994 Day & Zimmermann acquired Spartan Constructors, Inc., an Atlanta-based industrial contracting firm.
Day & Zimmermann formed yet another alliance in February 1996 when it announced a three-year agreement with AlliedSignal Inc., a manufacturer of chemicals and industrial fibers.
In late 1998, for instance, the firm progressed with its international expansion by forming a joint venture with M+W Sander, a subsidiary of Jenoptik AG, to build the world's largest insulin plant in Frankfurt, Germany.
1998: Ownership of Day & Zimmermann shifts to Spike Yoh's children.
The company then set the stage for increased international growth by establishing an office in Manchester, England, in August 1999.
Word that Day & Zimmermann planned to sell subsidiary D & Z Infrastructure Inc., which handled infrastructure and airport construction, began to spread in early 1999.
