YESCO company history timeline

1920

Thomas Young founded the company in Ogden, Utah in 1920 after borrowing $300 from his father.

1928

El Portal Wurlitzer and curtain - 1928

1929

The devastating Stock Market Crash of 1929 didn't curb America's growing appetite for movies.

1932

Built in 1932, this was the first building in Las Vegas to have an elevator.

1933

In 1933, YESCO opened a branch office in the Apache Hotel in Las Vegas.

1940

In Salt Lake City, YESCO installed a new sign for Capitol Theater and restored Villa Theater's 1940 sign.

1941

It's brick facade dates back to 1941 when J. Kell Houssels,Sr built the small casino with 59 rooms.

1946

Siegel finally got his hands on the El Cortez when Houssels sold the property to him in 1946.

1948

With it's shiny wraparound Streamline Moderne front proclaiming 5, 10 and 25 cents and its name in the terrazo sidewalk at the ront door, it was a beauty to behold as it anchored the corner. It opened in 1948 and stood proudly on that corner for almost fifty years.

1951

In 1951, that larger than life Texan, Benny Binion- having gotten a good taste of gaming in Las Vegas as a partner of Kell Houssels, Sr. bought the El Dorado Club and renamed it the Horseshoe Club.

1953

He offered southern hospitality and high limit gaming and the Horseshoe was doing a land office business when in 1953, the Feds got him for tax problems.

1955

It was demolished when construction began on a new hotel and casino in 1955.

1956

When the Fremont Hotel opened in 1956 it was the first high rise on Fremont Street.

1957

Frank Sinatra's film "The Joker is Wild" premiered at the El Portal in 1957.

1958

Wayne Newton was barely in his teens when he and his older brother, Jerry, caught their first big break and began performing in the lounge of the Fremont in 1958.

1970

In 1970, Benny made news by hosting the first World Series of Poker.

1974

Levenson and Lurie sold the Fremont Hotel in 1974 to a group headed by local businessman Al Parvin.

1988

In 1988, the Binion family bought the Mint and expanded the Horseshoe so that it took up the entire block.

1989

Benny passed away on Christmas Day, 1989.

1995

For example, it erected the first neon spectacular sign in Las Vegas for the Boulder Club in the late ’30s, and in 1995 it completed the four-block-long Fremont Street Experience canopy in Las Vegas.

2004

It's been announced that MTR Gaming Group, which took over Binion’s in 2004 from Harrah's Entertainment who kept the name Horseshoe, is selling the 55-year-old downtown casino to TLC Casino Enterprises for $32 million in cash.

2015

In 2015 Young Electric Sign Company sold YESCO Electronics, a subsidiary company, to Samsung Electronics of America, Inc.. Samsung rebranded the division as Prismview.

2016

The opening event was the stunt driving Nitro World Games on July 16, 2016.

2016 YESCO Outdoor Media acquired the billboard assets of Reagan National Advertising in Idaho and Montana.
