Position Summary:
The YMCA of Metro North is looking for a seasoned and experienced Assistant Day Camp Director to lead and manage our Summer Day Camp in Melrose, Massachusetts. This location has a 120-child capacity located in our downtown Melrose YMCA with an indoor pool, and all the typical fun programs that make summer camp an unforgettable experience for young children!
The ideal candidate will further develop and implement high quality FUN programming, utilizing best practices as developed through the YUSA and others. Excellence in quality leadership would require experience in positive staff coaching, progressive program development and parent relations. Experience in working in a summer day camp operation is a plus.
Qualifications:
Working towards a Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, recreation, sports, education, business or equivalent. (college age preferred!)
2+ years of experience in YMCA or related work.
1+ years in leadership of a summer camp.
Ability to direct programs through supervision of staff. Typical staff is 20-25 camp counselors!
Have the ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time.

Ensure the safety, high quality of all programs and operation through the development and maintenance of a strong part-time staff team, appropriate administrative systems, and safety standards.
Work with Camp Director on the operation of day camp in accordance with both local and State of Massachusetts Departments of Public Health and following best practices of American Camping Association standards.
Ensures a positive working and program environment emphasizing the YMCA's areas of focus and character values.
Staff Engagement & Development
Assists with trainings, and schedules, as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff.
Maintains all certifications and training hours necessary for the position including First Aid, CPR and O2 training.

Position is indoors and outdoors!
Lead and participate in activities that may include running, throwing, kicking, and swimming.
Able to sit low at child size seating and instruct/work with children at tables.
Classrooms and gymnasiums range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy environments with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently.

Qualifications
✅ What We're Looking For:
Must be 16+ years old
Current certifications in Lifeguarding/Swim Instruction, CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen are a plus - or we'll help you get them!
A positive attitude, love for the water, and passion for making a difference
