The Swim instructor plans and delivers effective swim instruction, using the Y of the USA swim curriculum, in a designated program area for YMCA members,program participants and non-members. Instructors must be knowledgeable, punctual, professional, and show concern for class participants. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Demonstrate skills and explain them clearly to class members. Instructs at the appropriate skill and age level for the class. Plans each teaching class in advance, prepares to start class on time, with proper material, equipment, and in proper attire. Observes all YMCA attendance and safety rules when teaching classes. Starts and end class on time. Maintain positive rapport with participants and parents of participants. Conducts all classes in accordance with YMCA of Cleveland standards and guidelines. Notifies supervisor, in a timely manner, of any problems relating to the class or program area. Is responsible for the safety of all participants, knows emergency procedures and the location of all emergency equipment. Gathers periodic participants feedback through distribution written evaluation provided by the Program Director. Leaves program area in a safe "closed down manner". Informs students of class cancellations and make ups in a timely manner; also is responsible, for obtaining a qualified substitute as necessary. Must be able to evaluate swimming skills and place participants in appropriate class. Keeps the pool area neat and clean. Is visibly involved with members, volunteers and staff in a positive, friendly manner that communicates and demonstrates the YMCA's core values of caring, honest, respect and responsibility. Follows all established policies and procedures, including but not limited to, safety practices and personnel policies. Participate in and support association events and fund-raising activities. Secures required trainings and/or certifications necessary for the position and provides up to date/ current copies to supervisor. Group Exercise Instructors design and instruct safe, high-quality, effective and challenging group exercise classes as determined by the class format and description. Instructors must be knowledgeable, professional, motivating, and member-focused. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Design classes that adhere to the designated format and are constructed to be appropriate for the participants' abilities. Teach scheduled classes with energy and enthusiasm. Demonstrate skills being taught in class, explain them clearly to class members, and work at skill level and intensity level appropriate for the particular class. Instructors are to emphasize the members' workouts, not their own. Frequently and consistently demonstrate multiple movement modifications, and repeatedly encourage members to modify movements and work at their own pace. Monitor intensity, technique, proper form, and hydration throughout the class. Consistently utilize clear and easy-to-follow verbal and physical cues in advance of a movement change. Plan in advance the specific composition/choreography of each class, consistently changing music and routines. Ensure that the class attendance of each member is accurately recorded in the designated manner. Be responsible for the safety of all participants; knows emergency procedures and the location and proper use of emergency equipment. MININMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required, Associates degree preferred. Current certification in CPR/AED for Adults, Children and Infants and First Aid. Current certification in Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise or current Group Exercise certification from an organization approved by the YMCA of Greater Cleveland. Must possess current certification (if available) and/or documentation of training in the specific class format.

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Team Coach provides leadership in the preparation, planning, and operation of swim team practices at their assigned branch while coordinating with the other branch for competitive meets. Responsibilities: Build effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and encouraging parental support and involvement Identify and recruits potential volunteers Instruct and provide feedback on technique, allowing for movement up through the swim team groups Provide leadership and direction for assistant coaches and support volunteers. Prepare and plan schedules and achievement guidelines for practices, leading practices. Coordinate with the other Swim Team Coaches and Aquatics Directors to plan swim meets. Plan and coordinate branch team gatherings, end of season celebrations and other events. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age. Swim Experience is required. American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required and can be provided by the YMCA after hire. Prior coaching experience preferred, and working knowledge of rules and regulations. Prior USA swimming instructor certifications (Coaching 101 & 201) preferred. Able to demonstrate correct swim techniques and strokes. General knowledge of anatomy, and exercise physiology, and kinesiology/ body kinematics preferred. All YMCA employees are mandated reporters of suspected child abuse or neglect.
