Important Eligibility Requirement***
Applicants must have previously worked for the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) within the past five (5) years and successfully completed MDCPS Pre-Service Training.
Individuals who do not meet this requirement are not eligible for the position and should not apply.
Candidates who left MDCPS more than five years ago or who have not completed Pre-Service Training will be automatically disqualified from consideration.
Additionally, candidates cannot have been employed by MDCPS within the past six (6) months.

What You'll Do
As a Contract Social Services Specialist, your core responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
Conduct initial and ongoing safety and risk assessments for reports of child maltreatment, including abuse, neglect, exploitation, human trafficking, and fatalities.
Investigate allegations received through Mississippi Centralized Intake and Assessment by conducting home visits, interviews, and collaboration with collateral sources.
Develop and monitor safety plans and make fact-based service recommendations.
Conduct historical record checks to assess prior agency involvement.
Schedule and attend forensic interviews, autopsies, and other case-related meetings.
Prepare and submit timely and thorough documentation, including investigative reports and case notes.
Testify in court and administrative proceedings as required.
Build and maintain professional relationships with law enforcement, legal partners, and community agencies to support investigations.
Mentor and support new staff in the investigation process.
Participate in team meetings, case staffing, and professional development activities.
Utilize data and time management tools to prioritize daily responsibilities and meet deadlines.
Participate in on-call rotation during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Travel routinely within assigned service areas (mileage reimbursed per state guidelines).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, provides therapy services to residential residents and documents all services rendered according to the MS Department of Mental Health Standards of Operations.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1. Utilizes intake assessment information to evaluate person-centered needs and develop individual service plans with personal goals, objectives, and interventions for each resident.
2. Provides individual, family, group, crisis counseling, and/or psychoeducational services to residents and their families/significant others.

10. Recommend management changes that would improve the operations and efficiency of admissions.
11. Perform such duties as directed by the Clinical Operations Director, Assistant Executive Director, and/or Executive Director.
Requirements
Position Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in an addiction, mental health-, or human services/behavioral health-related field and (1) a professional license or (2) hold a DMH credential as a Mental Health Therapist or Addiction Therapist. All employees hired on or after September 1, 2020, must meet this requirement.
2. One year of related work experience in alcohol and drug treatment.
3. Culturally competent in effective communication skills and counseling with residents.
4. Employees who self-identify as in recovery must have a minimum of one (1) year of sustained recovery.

The Lead Residential Care Specialist (Lead RCS) provides a therapeutic environment for youth in the CARES Center program through direct supervision of Residential Care Specialists and youth on assigned shifts daily.
This position balances supervisory duties with direct care duties simultaneously, and works closely with the CARES team to ensure the mission is carried out.
Lead RCS works closely with the Residential Life Coordinator to ensure that all scheduling, payroll, and disciplinary needs are cared for.
Lead RCS also works closely with the Residential Training Coordinator to ensure all training and onboarding of RCS's is carried out appropriately.
Lead RCS ensures continuity of care across units for the duration of assigned shift.
Lead RCS is responsible for all supervision of direct reports.

Displays good working knowledge of the goals of center administration and works to meet these goals.
Completes documentation for all client activities, on the same day the services are provided unless prior authorization is given to delay the documentation, but not later than 10 AM the following morning.
Provides therapeutic services for assigned caseload.
