Johnson County Department of Corrections is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of Youth Correctional Advisor at the Juvenile Services Center in Olathe, Kansas. Qualified applicants will remain as an active candidate for a period of up to 90 days.

Professional Youth Correctional Advisors (YCAs) support all functions within the Juvenile Services Center, including the Juvenile Detention Center where youths, ages 10-17, are detained for allegedly committing serious offenses. YCAs are responsible for overseeing youths in daily activities ensuring safety and security while teaching new skills and managing behaviors. We are a 24-hour, 7 days a week operation. Shift work and overtime is required.
YCAs are direct care staff, continually interacting with youths that are significantly impacted by adverse childhood experiences. Because of traumatization, many youths have not yet learned how to regulate their emotions and thoughts. A youth can become dysregulated quickly, lash out verbally and physically toward peers and/or staff and otherwise engage in self-harming behaviors such as attempting suicide. There are occasions when a youth becomes so dysregulated or becomes combative that physical restraint is necessary. We work with some of the most challenging at-risk youths. As a YCA, you will have the opportunity and responsibility to help shape behaviors and make a positive, lasting change in each youth you interact with. Working directly with youths it is expected of a YCA to:
Build healthy relationships, serving as a role-model for appropriate prosocial behavior and attitudes;
Deploys cognitive behavioral strategies with youths through skill training and role-play exercises to facilitate behavior change;
Uses motivational interviewing techniques to enhance youth's intrinsic motivation;
Teach and model basic expectations such as giving respect to self and others; being on task; acting responsibly; to lead by example; and, to practice safe behaviors;
Provide frequent positive reinforcement; and,
Seek opportunities to teach new behaviors, coping skills, de-escalation techniques and emotion regulation.
Not everyone has what it takes to be a professional Youth Correctional Advisor and work in this profession.
YCAs must believe in rehabilitation, and the idea that youths convicted of crimes can become successful community members;
YCAs must be highly adaptable to changes, exemplify teamwork, and support each function within the Juvenile Services Center;
YCAs must be able to manage their emotions and maintain temperament under stressful conditions; and,
YCAs must possess integrity, professionalism, humility, humor, and respect.
The job is incredibly demanding and challenging at times; but, it is also incredibly rewarding too.

Work as part of a team providing crisis intervention to meet the needs of members of the community and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) patients who are in crisis. This includes responding to telephone calls on crisis intervention lines. Assess current level of dangerousness for patients who report a psychiatric crisis both by phone and in-office. Provide crisis case management services applying CCBHC practices, as needed. Work with adults and children to see that community resources are in place to meet the current needs of the patient. * Support the clinical staff in the community by assisting with Mobile Crisis Unit calls.
* Transport patients to the hospital when applicable and necessary.
* Provide crisis stabilization services to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis while they are in the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU).
* Manage distraught or psychotic patients who are in need of structure; monitor gross psychological and physical functions of patients.
* Collaborates with community partners, caregivers, family members, physicians and other treatment providers on a regular consistently until patient dismissal.
* Provide transportation to support patient attendance in medical appointments and other therapeutic goal related activities to include development of community resources, employment or education access, social or consumer-run activities and related supports.
* Identify and secure in-home services to maintain stabilization once patient returns home.
Documentation.
* Complete all progress notes in accordance with CCBHC and COMCARE guidelines which meet requirements for medical necessity, goal-directed treatment and patient response to treatment within prescribed timelines.
* Documentation meets minimum Medicaid standards for content and quality.
* Completes call logs to ensure important information is available to other providers.
General Administrative Duties.
* Processing Medicaid, state hospital, Level II and PRTF screens as they are received in the Emergency Services office and recording the screen/s on the Emergency Services (ES) office electronic board.
* Processing half-slips for walk-in and cop-in patients, including entering patient information onto the ES office electronic board in a timely manner.
* Identify sources of information needed to provide comprehensive mental health treatment and secure the necessary COMCARE consents to release information. Submit necessary referral forms to team supervisor for approval or assignment in electronic health record (EHR).
* Ensure all needed documentation and forms are completed and up-to-date for assigned SCOAP patients.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or be equivalently qualified by work experience or a combination of work experience in the human services field and education, with one year of experience substituting for one year of education. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver's license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must have access to personal passenger vehicle to complete the driving duties of the position. Child Start, Inc. is currently seeking a Mental Health/Disability Specialist to join our team. As a Mental Health/Disability Specialist, you will collaborate with classroom staff in identifying children in need of individualized developmental and behavioral services. You will recommend and demonstrate strategies to help children adapt and succeed in the classroom and at home. Additionally, you will refer children for additional evaluation by partner agencies for Part B and Part C services and mental health consultation. You will document and track screenings, individualized services, and referrals in our child-tracking software.
In this role, you will provide direct support to children and families as needed through Program Intervention Plans. You will also work with our Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinator to recommend referrals to partner agencies and provide assistance with Individual Education Plans (IEP) or Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP).
Observe children in classrooms and home settings to help classroom staff identify children with developmental and behavioral needs; attend month Multidisciplinary Case Reviews
Recommend strategies to help children with identified concerns adapts more successfully to classroom environment; collaborate with Teachers and Coaches to develop Program Intervention Plans (PIP) and Behavior Safety Plans (BSP) to provide direct support for children; collaborate with Site Supervisor to lead PIP and BSP meeting with parents and classroom staff; demonstrate and mentor teachers in using these strategies
Support classroom staff in identifying and implementing IEP/IFSP recommendations
Work with contracted Mental health Consultants on-site to implement social-emotional and behavioral recommendations
Monitor required developmental and behavioral screenings; train and support classroom staff in using screening tools and complete screenings in a timely manner as defined by HS performance standards
Identify potential concerns from screenings; initiate referral to CAET for review and recommendations; assist classroom staff in completing paperwork for referrals for developmental/speech evaluations and mental consultation
Support staff in communicating with parents the results of children's developmental and behavioral screenings and any concerns that are identified; assist parents in communicating their concerns for their children with site staff; when appropriate attend home visits with Family Services Staff and/or Teacher to observe children and provide support to families
Encourage families to pursue referrals for developmental/speech evaluation and services as well as mental/behavioral health consultation and services; monitor progress of referrals; link parents to community support services as needed
Serve as a collaborative team member with the entire MHDB team; share duties with team members such as monitoring health checklist for MHDB requirements and attending Health Literacy events
Take direction and supervision from assigned Mental Health & Disability Coordinator while recognizing responsibility to the assigned Site Supervisor(s) for helping the entire center(s) achieve success with children in attendance.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree (B.S./B.A.) in early childhood education, social work, or related degree. If education does not include at least 9 hours of Early Childhood coursework, must commit to obtaining that additional education. An Associate's Degree will be considered with five years of relevant experience and an educational plan to attain a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
Requires 3 years experience in either Early Childhood Education or in the field of childhood Mental Health and Disabilities working with children with IEPs/IFSPs, or Behavioral Plans.
Ability to build rapport with children, families and staff and to work effectively as part of a team.
Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural differences.
Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor during stressful and sensitive situations.

JOB GOAL:

Position Summary & Responsibilities
This position is responsible for performing all duties through a team approach to risk management that addresses criminogenic indicators and needs. The Corrections Counselor I manages a caseload of assigned inmates through assisting inmates with adjustment to incarceration, program completion, rule compliance, release planning, and reintegration into the community. Consults with other Unit Team Staff, Work Detail Supervisors, Program Staff, and Security Staff in preparation of inmate reviews, Reentry Plans and work release/pre-release applications. Formulates recommendations to supervisory personnel consistent with inmate program needs and custody. Uses evaluations, program/treatment discharge summaries, clinical services reports, LSI-R's, and other assessment instruments in the formulation of effective case management interventions specific to the inmate's individual risk and needs. Provides daily input to ensure all inmates are assigned to necessary programs or meaningful work assignment commensurate with their abilities. Oversees notification to inmates of all changes in living unit and/or work assignment. Meets with inmates no less than monthly to address risk and needs areas and other significant issues. Increased emphasis should be placed on higher risk inmates based on a needs assessment including RDU evaluations, LSI-R scores, program treatment summaries, and other inmate assessments. Such contacts are to be recorded in the electronic chronological record to document the conversations, further actions and method for follow up.
Minimum Qualifications: Four years direct experience in criminal justice, social science or behavioral sciences.

* Identify and secure in-home services to maintain stabilization once patient returns home.
Documentation.
* Complete all progress notes in accordance with CCBHC and COMCARE guidelines which meet requirements for medical necessity, goal-directed treatment and patient response to treatment within prescribed timelines.
* Documentation meets minimum Medicaid standards for content and quality.
* Completes call logs to ensure important information is available to other providers.
General Administrative Duties.
* Processing Medicaid, state hospital, Level II and PRTF screens as they are received in the Emergency Services office and recording the screen/s on the Emergency Services (ES) office electronic board.

* Identify sources of information needed to provide comprehensive mental health treatment and secure the necessary COMCARE consents to release information. Submit necessary referral forms to team supervisor for approval or assignment in electronic health record (EHR).
* Ensure all needed documentation and forms are completed and up-to-date for assigned SCOAP patients.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or be equivalently qualified by work experience or a combination of work experience in the human services field and education, with one year of experience substituting for one year of education. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver's license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must have access to personal passenger vehicle to complete the driving duties of the position. Job Description
Child Start, Inc. is currently seeking a Mental Health/Disability Specialist to join our team. As a Mental Health/Disability Specialist, you will collaborate with classroom staff in identifying children in need of individualized developmental and behavioral services. You will recommend and demonstrate strategies to help children adapt and succeed in the classroom and at home. Additionally, you will refer children for additional evaluation by partner agencies for Part B and Part C services and mental health consultation. You will document and track screenings, individualized services, and referrals in our child-tracking software.
In this role, you will provide direct support to children and families as needed through Program Intervention Plans. You will also work with our Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinator to recommend referrals to partner agencies and provide assistance with Individual Education Plans (IEP) or Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP).
Observe children in classrooms and home settings to help classroom staff identify children with developmental and behavioral needs; attend month Multidisciplinary Case Reviews
Recommend strategies to help children with identified concerns adapts more successfully to classroom environment; collaborate with Teachers and Coaches to develop Program Intervention Plans (PIP) and Behavior Safety Plans (BSP) to provide direct support for children; collaborate with Site Supervisor to lead PIP and BSP meeting with parents and classroom staff; demonstrate and mentor teachers in using these strategies
Support classroom staff in identifying and implementing IEP/IFSP recommendations
Work with contracted Mental health Consultants on-site to implement social-emotional and behavioral recommendations
Monitor required developmental and behavioral screenings; train and support classroom staff in using screening tools and complete screenings in a timely manner as defined by HS performance standards
Identify potential concerns from screenings; initiate referral to CAET for review and recommendations; assist classroom staff in completing paperwork for referrals for developmental/speech evaluations and mental consultation
Support staff in communicating with parents the results of children's developmental and behavioral screenings and any concerns that are identified; assist parents in communicating their concerns for their children with site staff; when appropriate attend home visits with Family Services Staff and/or Teacher to observe children and provide support to families
Encourage families to pursue referrals for developmental/speech evaluation and services as well as mental/behavioral health consultation and services; monitor progress of referrals; link parents to community support services as needed
Serve as a collaborative team member with the entire MHDB team; share duties with team members such as monitoring health checklist for MHDB requirements and attending Health Literacy events
Take direction and supervision from assigned Mental Health & Disability Coordinator while recognizing responsibility to the assigned Site Supervisor(s) for helping the entire center(s) achieve success with children in attendance.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree (B.S./B.A.) in early childhood education, social work, or related degree. If education does not include at least 9 hours of Early Childhood coursework, must commit to obtaining that additional education. An Associate's Degree will be considered with five years of relevant experience and an educational plan to attain a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
Requires 3 years experience in either Early Childhood Education or in the field of childhood Mental Health and Disabilities working with children with IEPs/IFSPs, or Behavioral Plans.
Ability to build rapport with children, families and staff and to work effectively as part of a team.
