About the Opportunity
The Group Home YouthCounselor Overnight is responsible for the treatment of up to 8 youth in the Teaching Family Home under the direction of the Group Home Manager. During resident waking hours, this position provides teaching, guidance and supervision to youth.
Core duties and responsibilities:
· Monitor residents and facility by remaining awake during overnight hours
· Implement approved Individual Service Plans and Behavior Support Plans for each youth

In addition, the candidate must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License with driving record in good standing, must be able to successfully clear background checks associated with job, and must successfully complete in-house training.
VHBG will provide you with a sign on bonus in the gross amount of $2,000.00 subject to any deductions permitted under law. $500 sign on bonus on second paycheck, and $1,500 Retention Bonus on payroll that includes their 1-year anniversary. If your employment with VHBG is ended for any reason prior to six months of employment, the first installment will be recouped in your final paycheck.

Must hold a state independent license such as LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LMCH, This position has the primary responsibility of providing the full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families at military installations and off military installations. These services may include non-medical counseling, training/ health and wellness presentations, consultation with parents, personnel, schools, and consultation to installation command regarding behavioral health issues affecting children and youth. CYB School counselors will be assigned to Department of Defense (DoDEA) schools and community schools and will need to have experience working in a school setting to qualify for a school position. CYB School counselors will also be assigned to youth programs, summer camps, and on demand assignments. The counselors work closely with the installation and military branch Points of Contact (POC) to assure that the program is provided within scope and meets the needs of the installation and the schools.
* Provides non-medical, short-term, solution focused, counseling directly to eligible children and youth of service members at assigned primary and secondary locations. Services include assessment, brief counseling and consultation, action planning, referral to resources (assuring linkage as appropriate), and follow-up as indicated.
* CYB counselors will also have a focus on supporting the staff and personnel of DoDEA , community schools, summer camps (if available/assigned) as well as providing parent training and guidance.
* Provides training and health and wellness presentations, participates in health fairs and other base/installation activities focused on children and youth.
* Enters counselor activity data daily through smart phone, or web application, to assure that reporting is accurate from assigned installation while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity of service/family member.
* Establishes and maintains working relationships with community resources focused on children and youth and provides appropriate linkages. Consistently visible within the school which allows MFLC services to be accessible when working with children, the counselor must abide by line of sight protocol (another adult with responsibility for the child must be able to see the counselor and child they are working with at all times).
* Partners with POC to provide CYB services in a manner that addresses the needs of the installation/facility. Develops an effective and professional working relationship with the installation/facility POC.
* Manages duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to DoD protocol and staffs the cases with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
* Communicates with Regional Supervisor and participates in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations and in facilities to which they are assigned. Responds to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) program manager. The CYB will flex schedule to respond to urgent requests as needed or at the request of the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
* Participates in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees, initiatives, studies, pilot programs other contract activities as assigned/appropriate as directed by the customer and/or Magellan. This includes participation in pilot program certification and training processes, completion of activity documentation, integration of pilot activities in non-medical counseling work, and the utilization of applicable technology to complete required activities.

Responsibilities
Master's Degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a Mental Health related field.
Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory or Commonwealth that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner. A minimum two years of post-licensure clinical experience
Demonstrate intermediate-level competencies in technology and software (i.e., Microsoft Suite, Internet navigation, Smartphone/Tablet and application navigation, video-conferencing platform navigation).
Requires ability to engage and communicate with military members or children as assigned, in order to accomplish job functions, and to respond quickly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation and/or within a school setting, which includes the need to traverse short and/or long distances within the base to both indoor and outdoor locations, to maneuver through rugged, outdoor or uneven locations (e.g., steep inclines, stairs, grass), and work in outdoor weather and other military base conditions. Due to the nature of working on military installations or related worksites, counselors may need to comply with various site-specific requirements to work at designated locations. For example, for some assignments, counselors will need to have certain current immunizations or vaccinations and provide record of receipt.
Ability to prove US Citizenship and must be fluent in English.
Understanding, sensitivity and empathy for service members and their families. Ability to develop trusting, helping relationships. Ability to work with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) Clearance, and an Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprints Check.
Vehicle Operator's License Requirement: Unless specifically waived by the FEDSIM COR, all contractor personnel providing counseling support at Government locations shall possess a valid U.S. state vehicle operator's license. As a condition for employment under this contract, contractor personnel may be required to pass all tests for and obtain a U.S. military vehicle operator's permit for commercial sedans and similar, for use at Temporary Duty (TDY) locations, if required.
Must meet the Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology. School assigned counselors must have past work experience in a school setting to qualify for assignment.

· Provide general support to the Group Home Manager (GHM) as directed.
· Ensure day-to-day compliance with all routine GROUP HOME YOUTHCOUNSELOR documentation (Daily Logs, MARs, Health Forms, etc.).
· Maintain Risk Management Binder, ensuring full compliance.
· Coordinate medical appointments/follow-up with nurse and/or GHM; set appointments as needed; ensure necessary paperwork is provided, received and filed accurately.
· Check and ensure each resident's point sheet for the day is completed, including: resident name, date, target skills and coping skills.
· Maintain weekly program activities calendar, ensuring alignment with the house budget.
· Physical environment: ensure home is clean, appliances/fixtures in working order; temperature for water, refrigerator and HVAC working properly.
· Conduct vehicle checklist and document accordingly.
· Ensure food supplies are sufficient to meet the needs of the posted menu (coordinate with Staff Supervisor regarding shopping/budget). Food bank pick-up.
· Ensure essential emergency supplies are available, such as first aid kits, flashlights, batteries, snow shovels, ice melt (seasonal)
· Ensure general office supplies are sufficient for operation of the home.
· Take minutes during team meetings
· Ensure vehicles have adequate gas for planned outings.
Experience and Education:
High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of experience working with children or adolescents

An Associate's degree and 6 months experience working with children or adolescents
OR
A Bachelor's degree in a human services field and 6 months of experience working with children or adolescents.
Administrative experience preferred.
In addition, the candidate must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License with driving record in good standing, must be able to successfully clear background checks associated with job, and must successfully complete in-house training.
VHBG will provide you a hiring bonus of $500 on your one month anniversary and then a retention bonus of $1,500 on the first paycheck following your first year anniversary. Primary Function:
To participate as a team member in creating and maintaining an environment that will enable youth to develop and maintain positive changes in attitude, values, and behavior through a community-based group home model.
Responsibilities and Job Expectations:
Maintain a high standard of childcare during coverage, including appropriate documentation of each shift. This also includes overseeing the physical care of the facility's youth, their development of acceptable habits and attitudes, providing behavior support and intervention, and helping youth meet their goals and objectives as outlined on their service plan.
Provide a positive example and be a positive role model at all times
Build positive, caring relationships with youth
Model high personal and professional standards in interactions with residents, families, agency workers, and fellow staff members
Work towards annual goals for personal, professional and educational development
Assist in training new personnel
Organize and facilitate group activities
Facilitate medication dispersal and medical visits
Assist in constructing and implementing individual service plans for students
Participate in appropriate and ongoing supervision and staff development training
Assist in organizing, scheduling, and leading a wide range of group activities and community service projects
From time to time, may be asked to work in a group home other than the regularly assigned group home
Perform other duties as requested by the facility's residential Program Director
Core Competencies and Experience:
At least six months of experience working with children with mental health diagnoses, to include children in residential care, juvenile corrections, or other clinical settings, preferred.
Successful experience and demonstrated competence in working with youth in a group home or other residential setting, preferred.
Open to giving and receiving professional feedback
Knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity and the impact of various socioeconomic characteristics on our youth
Must demonstrate sensitivity to Elk Hill's service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
Knowledge of professional boundaries and an ability to role model appropriate behaviors to youth
Working knowledge of group dynamics and a basic understanding of psychiatric diagnosis
Ability to provide sound documentation during routine shift coverage
Strong relationship skills with the youth being served as well as with professional colleagues
Ability to work effectively with others, including but not limited to the treatment team and other internal and external stakeholders
Ability to be flexible in work hours
Ability to support constructive family contact and involvement in community activities as appropriate
Ability and willingness to work towards a QPPMH certification
Sense of humor
Credentials and/or Education:
High-School Diploma or equivalent - preferred
Must have up-to-date certification in the facility's Behavior Management Program and have the willingness and ability to apply such skills as needed and/or required in the day-to-day interactions with youth
Must have up-to-date certifications in approved courses for CPR/First Aid
Must have a valid certificate in an approved medication aide training class
Maintain valid driver's license and good driving record, preferred (note- those who do not have a valid driver's license or an approved driving record will not be allowed to drive on behalf of Elk Hill)
Physical Requirements:
Good physical health and remain current with annual TB screening and other certifications.
Ability and willingness to physically perform all functions of the facility's Behavior Management Program
Ability to traverse inside and outside of the property including uneven terrain
Periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
Travel Requirements:
Periodic transportation of a client as needed or required
