Working at Youth With A Mission

If you work with YWAM for the short-term you will have the experience of lots of jobs, in lots of places, working with lots of interesting people. The people are great, they are kind and passionate. They are dreamers.

If you want to stay long term in YWAM you need to have an extra level of dedication and tenacity to navigate life in another country, or life in clergy, both of which can take a toll.

Travel, life work balance, being able to determine your own work and family schedule within a framework.

I like that there is a strong sense of trust and friendship built over years of adversity and perseverance. They are hopefully, strategic and caring for those that they are serving.

I would find out people’s passions sooner so that they can be stewarding their energies into something they care about. I would offer training for particular responsibilities (practical things like how to participate in the media team work flow, run an industrial kitchen, or do the base finances). I personally received this, but not everyone does.

You will need to fill out an application. Be honest and vulnerable to ensure that you are a good fit for the particular base you are applying to. Each one has different cultures and values, make sure your values match. You will need a few references usually. Sometimes they request a background check.

It is usually enough to live, but not enough to save. I recommend aiming to raise about twice as much as you need to live to cover travel which is part of the job but usually comes out of your pocket and savings for the future.

Unlike what was shown on this page, YWAM is majority Brazilian, then Korean, then American. Our mission is a minority white mission, and an accurate portrayal of the global church, with a nexus in the global south.
