Zara Kids company history timeline
Today, Zara has close to 6500 stores across 88 countries around the world. It all began when Ortega established a dress-making factory, Inditex, in the year 1963.Ten years later, he started off a small store that was named as Zorba in La Coruna, Spain with a budget of a meagre 30 Euros.
He called it Zorba, after the 1964 film “Zorba the Greek.”
Zara the world most successful fashion retail brand was founded in 1975 in Spain by Amancio Ortega and Rosalía Mera with the budget of 30 Euros.
In 1975, he opened his own store in town.
They found Zara.” The holding company Inditex was created in 1985.
Soon Zara started to become popular and in no time it went beyond Spain and rest of the world.By 1990’s the store had entered into US, France and most of the European regions.
By the 1990’s the store had expanded into the United States, France and most of the Europe.
In 2003, Inditex built a Zara in the San Antonio el Real, an 18th-century convent in Salamanca, and in a historic cinema in Elche (also in Spain). The company likes special buildings.
Pablo Isla, the CEO of Inditex since 2005, becomes our chairman too.
Zara begins to sell its products online in September and by the end of 2010 the online platform is live in 16 European markets.
With her appointment, the Group’s Board of Directors completes the generational handover process initiated in 2011 with the replacement of Amancio Ortega by Pablo Isla as Inditex’s Chairman.
In a year dominated by the covid-19 pandemic, in which the priority was the health of its staff and customers at all times, the advance in the digital transformation strategy initiated in 2012 was underlined, built around the integrated store and online sales platform
In 1 April 2022, Marta Ortega Pérez becomes Inditex’s Non-executive Chairperson.
