Zurn Industries company history timeline

1900

He picked up where Iron Works left off, first opening Zurn’s barn doors in 1900.

1904

Although little information is available for the early years of the company's history, it is known that Eljer was originally the name of a plumbing supply manufacturer that started operations in 1904.

1925

In 1925 the company expanded into the HVAC products business.

1928

Ameridrives Couplings began manufacturing in 1928 as the Mechanical Drives Division of Zurn Industries.

1946

In 1946, Zurn launches drains, which will become a staple of our advanced water solutions.

1950

In the early 1950's Ameridrives Couplings patented the Amerigear fully crowned gear tooth coupling, the secret of superior mechanical power transmission.

1961

The family decided to take newly renamed Zurn Industries public in 1961, trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

1962

United States Brass became a plumbing company in 1962.

1964

Eljer began its European operations in 1964.

1971

Ameridrives Couplings introduced the Ameriflex non-lubricated diaphragm coupling in 1971 for the increased demands of high performance turbomachinery equipment.

1972

Zurn acquired Wilkins in 1972.

1988

In 1988, in need of investment to continue its growth, Zurn is bought by Jacuzzi.

1989

On January 26, 1989, Eljer Industries incorporated itself in Delaware as a wholly owned subsidiary of Household International.

1993

In 1993 Eljer lost a fraud and misrepresentation case to a former partner of Household.

1995

In 1995 the company spent $14 million in capital improvements to its North American plants.

United States Brass discontinued the Qest polybutylene plumbing system in 1995 when Shell Chemical, its supplier of polybutylene, stopped selling the resin for plumbing applications.

Another subsidiary with international scope, Industrias Eljer de Mexico, S.A. de C.V., was formed under Mexican laws in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, in 1995.

1996

In 1996, United States Brass introduced QestPEX plumbing systems that used pipe extruded from cross-linked polyethylene resin instead of polybutylene.

Late in 1996 Eljer announced its plans to merge with Zurn Industries, Inc.

1997

In January 1997 Eljer was acquired by Dallas, Texas-based Zurn Industries, Inc.

1998

As the largest manufacturer of these systems, United States Brass agreed to contribute to the settlement as well. (A resolution of the United States Brass bankruptcy was completed in fiscal 1998, under Zurn ownership.)

Jacuzzi acquired the manufacturing company in 1998 to benefit both companies’ shareholders.

2007

Rexnord acquired Zurn in 2007 for the strategic water management portion of its business.

2008

In 2008, the Ameridisc high performance disc coupling was introduced to complement the Ameriflex diaphragm product.

2010

The newest addition to the Ameridrives product line came in 2010.

2014

Zurn acquired Green Turtle for its patented interceptor systems in 2014, taking plumbing from inside the building to outside the walls and behind the scenes.
