Find a Job You Really Want In

Some people get that itch. The itch to start a business of their own.

Whether it be a small restaurant in town or the next unicorn start up, entrepreneurs all across America are starting businesses every day. Heck, we are just starting up Zippia and it’s both exciting and scary.

So we decided to take a dive into the data and figure out which parts of Washington offer the most for would be entrepreneurs. These are the cities that have relatively cheap costs to start up, a solid stock of employees, and, most importantly, a lot of businesses starting per capita.

These aren’t necessarily the tech or talent hubs of the state, rather the places where if you want to open your corner shop, it has just the climate to do so.

After sifting through the data, we ended up with this set of ten places in Washington that are ideal for getting your new company off the ground:

  1. Lakeland North
  2. Clarkston Heights-Vineland
  3. Lakeland South
  4. Fort Lewis
  5. Bryn Mawr-Skyway
  6. West Clarkston-Highland
  7. College Place
  8. Pacific
  9. Parkwood
  10. Moses Lake North

Read on to see how these places have created solid foundations for new companies to grow.

How We Identified The Best Places To Start A Company In Washington

There are certain criteria that came to mind when we sat down to analze the best places to start a company. Specifically, the idea that if other businesses are operating there, then it most be a good place to start a new one.

With that in mind we settled on this set criteria:

  • Businesses Per Capita
  • Unemployment rate
  • Cost of living
  • Median Income

The data was taken from two censuses reports — the 2013 American Community Survey and the 2012 Survey of Businesses.

We ranked each place with over 5,000 people in Washing for each criteria from one to 183. The lower the ranking, the better for that criteria. We then averaged across all the criteria with the lowest overall score being crowned the best place to start a business in Washington.
