How We Determined the Places in Mississippi with the Longest Commute Times
Commuting can be a real pain, and researching the longest commutes brought back some familiar frustrations. But that’s what Zippia is here for—helping you navigate the challenges of work life.
To identify the areas with the longest commutes, we relied on data from the American Community Survey, which provides a reliable source of information on average commute times for various locations within the state.
The Census Bureau calculates average commute times, which we then ranked from longest to shortest. To provide additional context, we estimated the total average commute time in hours for a year. The American Community Survey reports one-way commute times in minutes, so we multiplied that figure by 2 (for a round trip), then by 200 (the typical number of working days in a year), and divided by 60 to convert to hours.
For instance, commuters in Vancleave spend over 4 additional days on the road compared to those with the shortest commutes, such as in Oxford.
