One of the many qualities that people look for in a potential location or company is the intelligence of those around them. This factor can play a huge role in oneâs experience at a particular company and can make or break an employeeâs time there.
So finding a city with an intelligent population makes sense for both companies and employees. Thatâs where Zippia comes in; to help you identify those places in Ohio that might have skipped a gradeâ¦or two.
You may be wondering how does one determine how intelligent a town really is?
Well we went to the source of all things demographic data â the Census â to figure out what criteria about a place would identify it is a smart cookie.
We set upon the percentage of adults (over 25) with at least a high school degree and the percentage of high school dropouts (aged 16-20) for the 255 largest cities in Ohio with data. We then crunched the numbers and were left with this set of the brightest cities in the Buckeye State:
- Granville
- Powell
- Grandview Heights
- Pepper Pike
- Bexley
- The Village Of Indian Hill
- Worthington
- Montgomery
- Springboro
- Pickerington

How we determined the smartest places in the Buckeye State
Before we could dive into the potential IQs of various places in Ohio, we needed to know which places to look at in the first place. We settled upon any place with over 5,000 people and data available for every criteria.
This left us with 255 places in Ohio.
We then looked at the following criteria to determine the cream from the crop when it comes to smarts:
Our data comes directly from the latest American Community Survey from the Census.
We thought this criteria was representative of the current state of smarts with the potential for a place to improve the education levels of the next generation. And itâs not like we are setting the education bar incredibly high â 80% of students graduate from high school nowadays.
In order to determine the smartest, we ranked all the cities for each criteria from one to 255 with one being the âsmartestâ in any category.
We took the average rank across all criteria, with the place posting the highest overall score being given the diploma for âSmartest City In Ohioâ.

1. Granville
Population: 5,689
Adults Without High School Diploma: 0.1%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
Granville graduated early and has taken the diploma as the smartest city in the state of Ohio.
A relatively small town of just over 5,600 residents this little place is doing big things. With the best numbers on our list itâs no wonder Granville came in 1st!
2. Powell
Population: 12,012
Adults Without High School Diploma: 1.2%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.2%
Taking the hard won place of #2 smartest city is Powell. This medium sized city has an ultra low high school dropout rate of just .2%.
The IQs here are unbelievable.
3. Grandview Heights
Population: 6,836
Adults Without High School Diploma: 1.5%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
The small suburban town of Grandview Heights has spent some late nights brushing up on their school work as they swoop in for the top spot of #3 on our list of the smartest cities in Ohio.
With a population of just over 6,800 and a well educated adult population itâs no wonder this small town is doing such big things.
4. Pepper Pike
Population: 6,079
Adults Without High School Diploma: 1.6%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
The little town of Pepper Pike is a bright little bulb in the Buckeye state. With a sizeable population of over 6,000 itâs found itâs place as the #4 smartest city in Ohio.
The people here are studious and theyâre pretty good at it.
5. Bexley
Population: 13,286
Adults Without High School Diploma: 1.6%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
Bexley is doing things right as they boast a low high school dropout rate alongside a large population topping over 13,000 people.

6. The Village Of Indian Hill
Population: 5,802
Adults Without High School Diploma: 1.3%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.3%
With a small population of just 5,802 this little town is breaking down the intelligence barriers. With a high school dropout rate of under 1% the kids here are not only staying in school theyâre excelling at it.
7. Worthington
Population: 13,727
Adults Without High School Diploma: 2.1%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
Worthington is definitely worthy of the #7 spot. A relatively large town it has bragging rights for such great numbers despite itâs larger population.

8. Montgomery
Population: 10,332
Adults Without High School Diploma: 2.2%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
Home to over 10,000 people Montgomery is a powerhouse for intelligence. With only 2.2% of residents in need of a high school education this town is one of the smartest around.
9. Springboro
Population: 17,499
Adults Without High School Diploma: 3.2%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
The second largest town to make our list of the 10 Smartest Cities in Ohio Springboro is definitely earning its spot. As a town with almost 18,000 people and such a low high school dropout rate whatâs not to love?
10. Pickerington
Population: 19,014
Adults Without High School Diploma: 3.5%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
Rounding out our list of the smartest cities in the Buckeye state is the city of Pickerington. With the largest population to make our list this metro area is a booming city with some pretty smart guys and gals.
