One of the many qualities that people look for in a potential location or company is the intelligence of those around them. This factor can play a huge role in oneâs experience at a particular company and can make or break an employeeâs time there.
So finding a city with an intelligent population makes sense for both companies and employees. Thatâs where Zippia comes in; to help you identify those places in Oklahoma that might have skipped a gradeâ¦or two.
You may be wondering how does one determine how intelligent a town really is?
Well we went to the source of all things demographic data â the Census â to figure out what criteria about a place would identify it is a smart cookie.
We set upon the percentage of adults (over 25) with at least a high school degree and the percentage of high school dropouts (aged 16-20) for the 74 largest cities in Oklahoma with data. We then crunched the numbers and were left with this set of the brightest cities in the Sooner State:

- Mustang
- Edmond
- Guthrie
- Stillwater
- Collinsville
- Norman
- Newcastle
- Bartlesville

How we determined the smartest places in the Sooner State
Before we could dive into the potential IQs of various places in Oklahoma, we needed to know which places to look at in the first place. We settled upon any place with over 5,000 people and data available for every criteria.
This left us with 74 places in Oklahoma.
We then looked at the following criteria to determine the cream from the crop when it comes to smarts:
Our data comes directly from the latest American Community Survey from the Census.
We thought this criteria was representative of the current state of smarts with the potential for a place to improve the education levels of the next generation. And itâs not like we are setting the education bar incredibly high â 80% of students graduate from high school nowadays.
In order to determine the smartest, we ranked all the cities for each criteria from one to 74 with one being the âsmartestâ in any category.
We took the average rank across all criteria, with the place posting the highest overall score being given the diploma for âSmartest City In Oklahomaâ.

1. Jenks
Population: 18,312
Adults Without High School Diploma: 3.4%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
Graduating early and at the top of itâs class is the town of Jenks, Oklahoma. With a population of 18,312 people, almost no high school dropouts, and only 3.4% of the population lacking a high school diploma itâs Oklahomaâs best chance for a bright future.
2. Piedmont
Population: 6,232
Adults Without High School Diploma: 4.2%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 2.5%
Coming in a close second is the tiny town of Piedmont, Oklahoma. With only 2.5% of high school kids dropping out early and less than 5% of the adult population lacking a diploma the tiny town is doing big things!
3. Mustang
Population: 18,575
Adults Without High School Diploma: 7.3%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
Aside from sounding really cool the town of Mustang can now brag about their smarts! Taking the #3 spot with basically no high school dropouts this city has lots to write down on their resume.
4. Edmond
Population: 85,084
Adults Without High School Diploma: 4.1%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 3.0%
Taking the coveted #4 spot is Edmond, a town of 85,084 people. With a low high school dropout rate and only 4.1% of the adult population lacking a high school diploma this city is on the road to success.
5. Guthrie
Population: 10,668
Adults Without High School Diploma: 9.0%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
Splitting it down the middle of list is the city of Guthrie, Oklahoma. Coming in at #5 this town of over 10,500 people has been paying attention in class.
6. Stillwater
Population: 46,851
Adults Without High School Diploma: 5.5%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 3.0%
The residents of Stillwater, Oklahoma have ranked #6 and itâs clear how they earned it with just 3% of the high school population not making it to graduation day and only 5.5% of the adult population lacking their diploma.
7. Collinsville
Population: 5,970
Adults Without High School Diploma: 9.7%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 0.0%
Coming in hot at #7 is the tiny town of Collinsville, Oklahoma. With almost no high school dropouts the kids here are really putting in the extra hours for class every week.
8. Norman
Population: 115,521
Adults Without High School Diploma: 6.9%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 3.2%
As the biggest city to make our list Norman is defying the stereotype that bigger cities have poor education systems. At 115,521 residents this metro area is studying smarter and harder as the rank #8 in Oklahoma.
9. Newcastle
Population: 8,383
Adults Without High School Diploma: 9.0%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 2.7%
Cutting it close is the city of Newcastle, Oklahoma. With the people here numbering around 8,383 and so few high school dropouts itâs no wonder this town made our list!
10. Bartlesville
Population: 36,193
Adults Without High School Diploma: 9.2%
Teenage High School Dropouts: 2.6%
Rounding out our list at #10 is the city of Bartlesville. Although it has a population of 36,193 this city is doing big things as it has really low high school dropout rates. The IQs here must be off the charts!
